I doubt it's a "break" probably some layered drum hits and the SP 1200 kind of grittiness coming through.

it doesnt sound like a break to me. If anything,the shakers in the background were a sampled loop. The kick IS phat,but i believe its a one shot. The snare, to me, actually sounds like a snare layered with a rimshot, i know because i do it alot.

It sounds like one shots to me too. It's quite possible that he chopped those out of a break(s). I agree with that snare sounding layered.

Also the kick and snare don't have the same ambience to them which makes me think that they aren't from the same source.

Maybe you think it's a break cause he is using practically the exact same pattern from Nas' One Love. Same pattern different drums. I think the drums from One Love where chopped out of a Parliament break or something like that.
