Tonight, I successfully installed the Black Pads upgrade on my MPC 5000.

Here's the 5K fully rebuilt with the Black pads installed - I'm officially calling her "BLACK BEAUTY".

The black pads feel softer and more responsive - plus they look damn fine!!!

If anyone wants any more info regarding stripping your 5K, hit me up and I'll help you out.

Peace - Elite

OK, the procedure for opening up the 5K is a bit more complicated than say the 2500, there's a 'LOT' more screws for a start, also there's different lengths of screws which need to be carefully organised during removal (to make sure they go back into the correct place etc).

There are a couple of key things worth pointing out during the removal of the top case and front hand rest, which will be worth making clear to everyone - before you attempt it, it could save you some grief.

I did take some pictures during both the replacement of the hard drive and the replacement of the black pads which you'll find as a handy point of reference.

I didn't want to just post all of the pics without puting together a good tutorial, with clear instructions - but that's gonna take me an hour or so to put together properly and ensure all of the pics are resized and uploaded.

I'll post up a complete tutorial of fully stripping the 5K during this weekend, which I'm sure you'll all find interesting and helpful to read; before you decide to crack your 5K open.

Until later dudes...

First, does this void any warranties? Or does Akai give a sh!t as to who makes (authorized or non authorized) alterations during the warranty period?

I guess not. ???

I think a much more important question is 'Do I really give a f@ck?'

Erm...... wait for it....

I never understood why other MPC users come to the 5k forums worrying about wat we the hell we be doing.

Wasn't 4k users supposed to submit a bug list to SCD /Akai for a potential OS upgrade? Never got off the ground did it?

LOL @ 4k users being treated like the retarded stepchild. must suck not being on that MPC comparison list chart eh?

You guys are wors than Fox News  The truth is:
MPC 4000= McCain (boring)
MPC 5000= Obama (excites supporters)

Having all the features in the world will not make your music better. Having an MPC 4000 does not make your music better. Nor does having an MPC 5000...an MPC 60 or even an MV.

So..if you are not satisfied with the MPC 4000, there are at least two alternatives: MPC 5000 or MV 8800. You already know what we picked.
