ZIP Drive with MPC 2000XL Problem

I have a problem with the zip drive connected to my mpc, my zip drive is working fine with my computers, but when I put samples on it and try to load it on my 2kXL, it just writes "WAIT..." on the mpc and it never loads. I can't even see the list of the samples even before loading it.

I have a 250mb and 100mb zip drive, and I have the same results with both.

The zip drive you connect to your computer is more than likely NOT a scsi zip drive but a parallel zip drive. These will never work when you connect them to an MPC2K(xl) in the worst case scenario they might even blow the SCSI fuse inside your MPC.

I really reccommend you to buy a card reader from mpcstuff.com. I got mine yesterday, and installed it. very easy (except from some screws that I needed to drill, as they were destroyed). Took my time to copy everything over to the cf card, and have now for the first time ever backed it up to my computer. Also, for me it was perfect, they sent it to me writing it as a gift, so no taxes on it!! Live in Norway, so its expensive when they put tax on stuff..

Yup but it sounds like your using a parallel drive without Termination.

I think the 100mb Drive doesn't have any termination, but the 250mb does.
So I use the 100mb with my computer, and the 250mb with the mpc, but now I have a message on the MPC saying that there's a conflic with channel 6 or something like that when I switch from floppy to SCSI 1,2,3,4,5,6 on the load menu of the 2KXL.

I have a few settings on the back of the 250mb ZIP drive, I tryed them in every possible position, but nothing new.

Neither picture shows us the back of the drives, which is the part that tells the tale. Both drives should have two switches in back between the connectors. If they don't, then you don't have a SCSI drive. Plus a SCSI drive will have the little SCSI "S" symbol over the right side connector, not a picture of a printer. If your zip drives don't have these things, you cannot use them with your sampler.

Also, you need to set both switches DOWN (ID 5 and termination ON). If they don't work in that configuration, you either have a bad zip drive or a problem with your MPC's SCSI bus.

I had some wird problems with my zip drive as well. I have/had the 100mb one you have on the first picture. What happened is that I start the mpc, then go in to load screen. Typically (everytime), it said something about not finding the scsi drive. What I did was that I ejected the disk, and put it back in. Then you wait for the sound when the zipdisk starts, and when it gets more quiet, then you can push the load button again. Try this if this is your problem. Sorry if it doesn`t help.

ps. Everytime the zip disc went into "sleepmode" then I had to do the same procedure over again. Eject, put in disc, wait for the load sound to disappear, then push load.. works...

Make sure that you have already set the settings on the mpc correct. usually scsi 0 or 1. I think I used scsi-0
