I was rereading the manual after I spared down my home studio to the basics again. Over the months I really have been trying to learn to much sh*t without really, really, reading that User`s guide like I thought I should. But now alot of questions I have seen on the board, I discovered are covered in the User`s Guide in basic form. It was just for some reason speed reading or not really paying attention because I had shitl**ds of other manuals for other equip that I had to learn that I missed alot of information. For example
13. If desired, move the cursor to the Interval field and turn the [JOG] dial to specify the spacing at
which the continuously-variable events will be added.
You can set this field in a range of 1/4 (QUARTER NOTE)–1 tick (1/960th of a quarter note). As you decrease the
value of this setting, the continuously-variable events will change more smoothly.
Wait a minute that means that the Timing off 1/960 setting is a 1/4 note T/C setting that some others were requesting in the 1.60 update.
And some others
1. Select an INST type track in the main page, and press the [SEQ EDIT] key.
When you select an INST type track and press the [SEQ EDIT] key, the piano-roll graphic editor will appear.
A Track field: Selects the track that will be displayed
in the graphic editor.
B Timing correct: Indicates the note value that
will be the minimum unit for timing correction.
The setting of this field also determines
the resolution of the horizontal axis (time
ruler) of the graphic editor.
C Now field: Indicates the current location
within the sequence in measures/beats/ticks.
D Graphic editor: This area graphically displays
the note events and continuously variable
events, and lets you select the range that
you want to edit.
E Time ruler: This indicates the time axis of the track. The markings on the ruler will be the smallest units
by which you can select a region.
F Note numbers: This area indicates the note numbers of the note events recorded in the track.
G Vertical marker: This indicates the current location. Use this to specify the editing region in the time
ruler.
H Horizontal marker: Use this to specify the range of note numbers that you want to edit.
I Note event: Note events recorded in the track are displayed as bars. The length (left to right) of the bar
indicates the duration of the note event.
Doesn`t this mean that the region is the note on in 1/8, 1/16 notes and etc.
And all I have to do is change the duration if I want a whole note, half, quarter and etc pressing the window button and editing on the event window. why would I need to have cut button?
And for now editing sequences is very basic
Broadly speaking, the MPC4000 consists of the following three sections.
• Sampler
• Sequencer
• Pads/controllers
These sections internally communicate with each other using MIDI events (performance data).
A MIDI note number is assigned to each pad on the top panel, and when you strike a pad, the corresponding
NOTE-ON message is sent to the sequencer section or the [MIDI OUT] connectors.
The sequencer section records the MIDI events that it receives from the pads or the [MIDI IN] connectors.
When you play back the sequencer, these MIDI events are sent to the sampler section or the [MIDI OUT]
connectors.
The sampler section receives MIDI events from the sequencer section, pads, and [MIDI IN] connectors, and
produces sounds.
Now let’s take a closer look at how each section is structured.
I use a controller to send a note to the sequencer which sends a signal using midi out to the sampler or external module which produces the sound assign to that note. All I need to do is check how many different programs I have assign to the midi outs with different sounds assign to the same note number on each program.
Finally for now sequences
“Sequences” are the basic unit from which an MPC4000 song is created. The MPC4000 lets you create up
to 128 sequences in internal memory, and you can specify the LENTGH (1–999 measures), TEMPO, and TIME
SIGNATURE separately for each sequence.
Each internal area within a sequence that records a performance you play on the pads or a MIDI keyboard
is called a “TRACK.” A sequence consists of 128 tracks.
The MIDI events recorded in the 128 tracks can be sent to the SAMPLER section or transmitted from the [MIDI
OUT] connectors. You can freely select the output destination for each track.
Wow for editing the Sequence is it basically just the BARS, TEMPO, And the TIME SIGNATURE why would I be trying to do any other edits? The real meat for the edits is mainly in the Tracks because that is where all of my notes are recorded. The now field shows the measures/bars, Quarter beat, and the tick(1/8, 1/16 notes and etc.) If I want to edit a region of time 1.01.000-8.01.000 by copying, deleting, or pasting all I have to do on to the track hit SEQ edit which should be called Track edit and highlight the region in time and edit as I like. Sh******t is make a long story short when I apply myself by focusing on one instrument and really reading the Users Manual it really does make sense and I wonder how I like maybe some others missed this. Overeaqerness or a case of having too many manuals and not enough patience to concentrate on one thing. I think that Mr Naoya of Akai might have been looking at me alittle strange now saying to himself "Did that guy even see the things we wrote on the first page."
O well live and learn. I hope this helps others as it has helped me.
