Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

just wondering how everyone organizes their programs and sequences to be able to match up later. i have alot of programs and alot of sequences and unfortunately alot of old stuff that i cant sort out and match up to listen to. it seems like naming them the same would work. like picking a name everytime i start a new beat and get it ready to save, then renaming the program i was using with the same name. i am not really good at coming up with working titles for just beats though. any ideas. somebody has to have this figured out to a science.

It seems like you are in the right direction...I always name my sequences and program the same, but where it gets tricky is using the Purge function under shift+PGM. you can turn off all of the sounds from a program that you do not use in program screen (i.e. Pad A1: OFF (as opposed to sound 1, etc.)). Once you have only the sounds you are using from a pgm assigned to the pads, you can hit f4 or f5 to PURGE the pgm. This allows you to delete all sounds not being used in that pgm, ultimately making the file size smaller and the program specific to the sequence. Hope this helps...

i am not too worried about purging unused sounds (i use a zip soo the space is ok). i guess i am wondering with the zips and my pc and mpc editor how well i can get it worked out. ideally i could simply backup the programs and sequences all into their own folders on my computer to make retreival easier. once i sort through 2 zips of lots of old unorganized beats and stuff i might try that. then i could just copy paste the contents of that folder (on the computer) onto a zip and load it up when i want to pull up some old ish. i dont have an XL so i cant seperate songs into folders right in the mpc. i guess XL users could make folders for each 'song'. it isn't a big deal right now, i just want to get a handle on it before i start losing stuff i really want to come back to.
