Well, I know and read on the forum that people use other drives than the CD-M25 for their MPC 2500. So I'd like to know if that will work on the MPC 5000 as well!?!?

Has anyone tried that :?: I don't wanna spend that much money on a CD drive since I only want it to direct sample from audio cds. No burning stuff and what the heck

So, any experience so far :?:

Good luck. Somebody already tried that in the forum with no luck. I would suggest to use the Akai drive.

I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on a product than attempt to use an unsupported device..... :? well, I probably would because I am funny like that.

Whatever you do, be sure to share it with the forum.

I am thinking about opening up my MPC 5000 to see what makes it tick....

$200 for a laptop drive. What a rip. :?

Sure when the official one is 249 !!!

Totaly crazy !

Hey...in a mad dash to be among the first to get an MPC 5000, I had to pay $2500 for it plus state tax, spent $200 for the drive, and another $200 for the memory. That was almost $3500. Now you have companies like VST service selling maxed out 5Ks for $2500  Three years ago, I paid almost that amount for my first MPC 2500. Then I discovered (forgot the name of the company based in NY..I think)...they sold me my second MPC 2500 for $1600 when everybody else was still selling them for $2000.

So...shop around in order to get the best prices. Stay out of Guitar Center. Call these companies that sell on-line. You can get better deals than the advertised prices.

I tried a Teac drive modded and unmodded, but the son of a biatch wouldn't work!

Hope you have better luck.

Well, got the TEAC drive today, installed it and............argh! Doesn't work. The LED is illuminated and it kinda loads a CD (so, it spins and stuff), but in the load screen it says "No device present!" blah bla.

So, I'm gonna send it back and get my refund! :x

Only strange thing is, the CD-M25 installation manual says that you have to fix the drive with a screw at the bottom of the MPC! Did you check it out? The screw is attached to a place much deeper in the middle of the bottom plate then the CD-bay. Consequently, when you put in the screw it will not at all touch or tighten the drive!

Any suggestions for that???

The hard drive is a full size 3.5" EIDE which is connected using a high speed Ultra ATA-100 cable (40 pin connectors 80 conductor ribbon)

I tried changing the jumper settings on the HDD i.e. Master, slave etc. but couldn't get the OEM TEAC CD Drive to work.

I've started a new thread for a reference to stripping your 5K which shows some pics - check it out!

IDE drive? I was hoping to look under the hood and find connectors to install a SATA drive....

OK I got the Teac drive to load some samples. I couldn't get it to save. Might be an issue with the HD I forgot to format prior to installing. I took it out and installed the CD-M25 and it wouldn't save either. I'll post more info later this week.

Beware of the $89 CD-25M drives on eBay now. The individual is advertising them as CD-25M drives, but mine is not recognized. I get the happy error "No device present." I believe it is the same Teac drive others have tried as the mounting screw is definitely in the wrong place as described above. The seller's name is Caroline Ndungu and the company name is Intronics or Intronix based out of Texas. Filed a dispute with Paypal and I got a weird response. "The other party is unavailable to respond." So Paypal will decide the outcome. And that is why I only use a credit card for payment on Paypal. :-)

Just a friendly heads up...
