every now an again i might check a record shop if im out of town like 2 or 3 times in a year but now mostly on line or alternative sound sources like tv videos, dvds, movie clips that i found online.

i got my workflow to the point where i spend less time looking for stuff to sample but still output more beats.

The same amount of time you apply to search for music online or in this thread you could be bidding on records in Ebay or elsewhere. I know people who have kids and mortgages, etc..., and they still buy records. If you don't feel like doing it that's your choice. Just don't keep on bringing these excuses to the table. We all have responsibilities and other things to do, I personally don't see myself spending 4 hours at record stores(like I do these days) 10 years from now due to the probable married with young children scenario. But I will have amassed a collection which allows me not to have to do so. And will still make the time to dig online if necessary. Not because I feel obligated, but because I enjoy it.
So in essence, you shouldn't have to try justifying yourself for this. If you don't actually enjoy digging or want to do it than don't. But then what's the point of creating this whole thread in the first place?
I don't play sports but would never go to a Forum and tell people not to. What's the point?

Homie it just seem like you dont even really want to do this. It aint about open or closed minded, if you believe in your craft investing money into it shouldnt be an issue, you just want the free ride. People can see that a mile away and it'll keep people from wanting to f*ck wit you. Imma have to cosign Jaem and say you aint built for this.

If you aren't willing to drop some cash at the record store here and there, why should anyone be willing to shoot you cash to use your beats??

that's some really selfish sh!t right there. Do you not see how that is a blatent double standard?

I find dope sh!t at the record store for 50 cents all the time. I've never dropped more than 20 bucks on a record. The difference is, I know how to dig for records.

Just because you don't know how to dig for records, doesn't mean as a whole it's a waste of cash. It's a waste of cash if you buy garbage...

Go post on a street corner with that unartistic, make money, hustlin attitude.

Real musicians aren't motivated by dollar signs.

You've got no heart in this sh!t.

I think dudes are being really quick to jump on dude and not seeing the bigger picture.

He bought equipment, so it's not like he didn't invest in his music.

He just doesn't care to buy records, and waste his money and time on wax that isn't doing anything for him. It's that plain & simple. It's not a big deal. Not a lot of people are down for that. Not everyone wants to be a digger.

You don't need records to make beats.

You can make heat with just drum kits and a keyboard. There are tons of producers that aren't diggers, and don't sample.

In fact, if he can make heat without using other people's music, then all the power to him.

It makes more business sense to not use samples anyway.

Dude, if you aren't going to sample, just make sure you keyboard and/or instrumentation skills are tight, and you're str8.

If you are going to get samples or music off the net, that's your business.

**** what anyone else says.

I do nothing but sample, but I understand where your coming from and I'm not gonna put you down for it.

However, coming to a digging forum and saying its a waste is just not productive. Obviously, it's full of people that are passionate about it, and just won't agree that it's a waste, no matter how hard to try and convince them.

So really, the biggest waste of your time and energy was posting about this here.

Maybe post in a more sympathetic forum, or keep that info. to yourself.

dats wassup since 2000 ive spent around 4G on equipment and records i dont see any reason to keep pumping money into a hobby i aint getting paid for.

so im down sizing selling 2 keyboards selling one of my samplers exhanging some of my wack records for better records then i aint buying no aditional records, after that im sticking with downloading from the net and using what sounds ive accumulated over the past 8 years.

might get a microkorg as the last bit of hardware but then im done. peeps dont like the idea of someone not buying records but as ive said mordern tech means its no longer essential so i aint putting money down its all personal choice but i always got love beats and will keep doing it regardless.

No doubt!

Do you!

I never had much gear really at any point, but there were times where I had to downsize and get rid of things. Things that just weren't me, I wasn't using, or it made better sense to go in a different direction.

I got rid of some dope pieces but I don't regret it all.

My workflow is tighter and more streamlined for it.

But don't take a dump on the foundations either.
You need to know where we've been to know where we are going...
