You've got to be a bit more specific...do you mean when you record a sample from an external device(say, a turntable for instance) and you try to save it, in your new 1gb cf card, it says 'insufficient memory'?
in that case maybe you already 1gig of sounds on there. :D. the only 'insufficient memory' problem i've ever had is when i have too many samples assigned to pads but that's because i only have 16mb of ram. I haven't upgraded.
Be alittle bit more specific and we'll help you out.

insufficient memory means that your RAM is full. you need to either upgrade your RAM or just clear some samples off that you recorded into the 500

everytime you turn the 500 the RAM gets cleared, so try just turning it off and then back on and sampling from there

edit: it has nothing to do with your compact flash card,

I do get a OS fart sometimes that will tell me insufficiant memory even when the status button verifies that it is not all used. It will either go away after awhile by itself or sometimes requires me to reboot.

I dont think this is what he's talking about though.
The CF card is not memory.
