How did yall learn to be a dj and what did it take

i started out recording music when i was 7 off the radio i use to pause mix,before i even knew what it was. then in 80,i started with turns didnt start to scratch till i heard ROCKET then it was on. that took me to the next level.


it takes alot of practice to be a dj, practice makes perfect....beleive that!!!

i use to ask moms and pops for tuens all the time, but i never got hem at least the ones i wanted the 1200. but i had duals /bsr/technics slb's/sony's,belt and direct drive.
my mixers where radio shack mixers/ then i got old enuff to buy my own shlT that was it . i got everything i wanted.

technics are the way to go . every place has them there industry standards,
all radio stations use them and clubs, get use to spining on evrything tho ...i hate dj's that say they cant mix on turns that arent techs1200's thats the lack of skill.
but the tech is the best takes a punisihment that other tables can't.

the most inportant thing is to have fun with it. and practice all the time

it's not true .,but it realy makes you a better dj,if you can't rock a party then you aint a dj plain and simple

Started same as E.D.E, using mom and pop's home stereo at around age 10 or so. Pause mixing on cassette tapes. Those old tape players had some killer mechanics and would pause instantaneously.

Then around 16 was able to buy a radio shack mixer and a pair of used technics 1800s. Playing parties, weddings, etc on weekends. Soon after, bought some used 1200s and Peavey SP1 speakers... man, those were some heavy ass speakers. Basically I became pretty good at rocking parties, but it did take a lot of practice and I went through a bunch of faders on my numark 1650 mixer.

Just keep at it and be genuine with this passion we all share.

I remember making mixtapes by searching for rap on the radio and recording them when I was 8yrs, even added my own skits in between tracks. But it was my older brother that bought a pair of gemini turntables and a mixer that got me into it. I used to watch him cut it up and how the girls reacted to it, I was like ''Yeah I can do this''.

it took a LOOOONG commin up 2 16 yrs........ & alot of mixtape makins.... good luck
