We have two Guitar Centers here in St. Louis, and neither one have been able to sale one. What's the deal with the 5000? What's about with your city?

2 things..

1. nobody should be silly enough to buy from GC without a "hookup"

2. The market is dead right now man. Prices have to come down drastically for ppl to buy anything.

The market is so bad, NYPD had to drop its 2009 class because it won't be able to afford to pay for new recruits...

In the UK, MPC5000s are literally flying off the shelves in huge numbers...

The 2nd hand 4K market is pretty dead though, due to the huge drop in value of the 4K since the 5K's launch.

Progress is progress!

I dunno about St. Louis, but the GC here in manhattan is a complete ripoff. If you don't do your own homework before going in, the sales reps will rob you blind.

but on the other hand if you know someone, you can get deals of the century.

^^^hope that makes sense...

I got a hook up that will get me just about anything from anywhere, from any Guitar Center across the US. He has my cell # and I have his. So, that's no problem. You still have to research your gear so you will know what you want and what suits your needs. I'm curious as to how the 5000 is saling, cause my boy is the most knowledgeable, that's why I only deal with him. He can't even sale one. I'm still not feeling it. I bought an MV8800, instead!

Homie.. the mv8800 midi timing sucks gorilla's ass, unless you've already mastered how to setup your track and recording parameters for each song.

I was one of the early adopters back in 04. Had it off and on until 06. It was a love hate thing. Way more features than any MPC but the timing... oh boy...

I understand you love your 5k but yo, no offense but you obviously didn't know what the **** you was doing with ya MV..I got a mpc3k and a 4k in the studio and definitely am loyal to my mpc's. The MV's timing is solid tho..and hella easy to bang tracks out on..Midi issues? I haven't experienced nan..

I can get good results recording sequences on the MV and Fantom G. However, based upon my experiences...MPCs are just better at it. I am not talking about bells and whistles. I am simply talking about picking a track to record on, making your quantize settings, and using the pads or MIDI keyboard to record. This takes nothing away from anyone that uses an MV or an yother sequencer that can do the samething. The bottom line...find something you are comfortable with and stick with it.

I'm aware of the MPC's capabilities. I started out on a 2000xl. Still rockn' the 3000 & 4000. Akai forced me into the MV. I should have never sold my MC909! I just wish people stop sugar coating the 5000!!!¡

Perhaps, but they are also being returned just as fast. The numbers are great enough that virtually every major dealer has b-stock and Akai is selling refurbs direct- the same with the 500.

The 1000's and 2500 sell well and customers keep them so there are no refurbs for these models on the Akai site.

Getting customers to keep the 5000 is harder than getting them to buy it.

You've obviously not actually checked availability of B-stock 5Ks from the major dealers in the UK then: -

Millenium-music - No B-stock 5Ks listed
DV247 - No B-stock 5Ks listed (They did have B-stock MPC 4000!)
Dolphin - No B-Stock 5Ks listed
Reverb - No B-Stock 5Ks listed
GAK - No B-stock 5Ks listed
Andertons - No B-Stock 5Ks listed (They did have B-stock MV-8800)

Based on what specific evidence did you make the above statement? Lets see your facts and stats?
(According to your profile you listed your interests as MPC-4000 and MV-8000 - right?)

The one thing I can confirm from checking B-stock in the UK, is that every major retailer DID have B-Stock from almost every other hardware manufacturer, that's just the consumer end of the musical instrument market homie - you'll never avoid that no matter how perfect your products are.

i.e.

Some katz order, then realise they can't afford it - quick send it back!.

Some order with just the intention of trying it out, knowing that they've got a no-quibble return period - never had any intention to actually buy it!)

Some order without doing proper research on the equipment and realise after a few days of use " hey! this doesn't do the stuff I really need" - Return it quick!

Of course there are some genuine returns (for ALL manufacturer's products and models) - and that's the rules of the game.

All I can tell you is that I'm loving the 5K (and I know a lot of people who agree) and IMHO it's the best MPC currently available on the market.

That's my perspective based on being a 5K owner and user.

Peace - Elite.

I don't know how y'all stay so positive about the worst MPC ever?¿ It was a good thought, though. Did y'all get hypnotized?¿ Just reading the bug report made me sick.
