MPC 500, or the MPC 1000...

i have just enough flow to get basically either, ive done the reasearch, read a shit load on both

im thinking maybe the 1000, but i could save some by getting the 500.

500 is kul, but no comparison to the 1k with jjos...in my opinion I'd sacrifice an extra few hundred bucks to get the 1k!!!

there are tons and tons and tons of extras that jjos does that the 500 does not. i am in no way putting down the 500, but this is a kinda dangerous statement to make. overlooking all screen-size related differences (such as grid edit and graphical waveform display) the 500 can't apply a qlink to an entire track, perform bit conversion, alternate-loop samples, perform ADSR, and has no aftertouch. this is a very brief list of extras, and not unimportant ones at that.

do i get the jj os seperatly from the mpc? or does it come with the 1k when i purchase it.. probably stupid questions, but gotta start somewhere man

1 last thing, i have a shit load of records and within a couple weeks getting a newer vinyl player to sample from, what mixer do i really need for the mpc to work with the vinyls and a mac?/amps to get the best out of the record samples?

So your looking at spending a good amount. Honestly you dont need a great turntable unless you will be sampling your scratches (in that case buy Techs) but since your just sampling, the Numarks are fine. Just make sure to buy good needles for good sound and your mixer also determines your sound quality... But stick to something simple like a Numark or a beginners Vestax... Vestax and Rane are probably the best brands for mixers Id say though...

But going the Numark route is perfect... They are good stuff and they dont cost much.

ive heard records being sampled sound like shit without some sort of amp? any word on this..

and man, im not even positive an mpc 1000 will work on my mac???

i cant find anything about it on google, but basically theres no card slot in it (which is at the front of the mpc i can see from pictures)...and with the chordes etc..

the mpc 1000 will connect to your Mac via USB.

I have nothing to say, only because these 2 have summed it up very nicely i must say. All the information was right and this is rare larry. Be thankful to those two as you already were. Im gone the work here was done.

Yup that's rite...connect your 1k via usb to ur mac...idk if u got the cable for it, but one end is the usb adapter and the other end connects to the 1k...u can get this cable @ GC...then u insert ur cf card into ur 1k and once connected to ur mac, a little mpc disk will pop up on ur screen, open that folder up and this is where u will input and output all of ur samples. Its pretty simple after the first tyme...u got any probs, let me know.




one last thing, this is also where ur gunna input the jjos file once its downloaded...make sure the cf card is inserted and drag the file into the mpc disk folder...just go to the website I provided for the jjos and it will explain to u the installition procedure.

Good thread! I'm currently torn between the 500 and the 1000. I'm already running a MacBook with Ableton Live; it does everything that the MPC does (and more) but obviously doesn't have the same feel or sound.

Was looking at the 500 for doing stuff 'on the go' but then the 1000 has SO much more; I could have it set up in a completely different part of my studio/house and get a different vibe going... *quandry*

nicebeats, were you saying i couldnt sample from more than 1 source per track on the 500? and the no aftertouch leaves me with having the same drum loop without a high hat (example) on solo for a sec or 2 by holding the pad? is that what that is exactly? thanks man, any help i can get is appreciated due to the purchase, my first mpc also
