Ok so i figured i'd back up about 50 or so beats i've got on a zip onto my computer

this isn't a horror story, its ok but here is a great tip:

on your mpc, in the top sequence field press open window and there is an option for default name
Change this to a maximum 6 letter name ie seqnce so that when your save your beats it will be seqnce01, seqnce02 etc (well this is how i roll just with the defaults)

The reason:
When you copy all your shit to the comp its gotta be 8.3 named ie 12345678.123 ie seqnce01.mid or else the name will **** up when you open the zip again on your mpc and you gotta go back and rename all that shit on the computer etc etc

hope this is helpful!!

or

take brand new zip, format it on computer fat/fat16.

2kxl can read this disk.

use only 8.3 filenames from now on with this disc. you can then use that disc in computer/mpc
anytime you need for transfer or whatever.

remember to stay with 8.3 filenames though.

ckrename is a freeware program that can help with batch renaming duties.

I've been using it for years now, never ever problem.

I've used this same technique with floppy, zip and now cf card, same good results, never ever a problem.
