Volume Change.. HELP! Has anyone had this problem?

I was making a drum loop with the MPC 5000. Although to make that funky bass line. I turned to the Moog Voyager and laid the funk in ya trunk bass line. Okay.. I'm over the top! Anyway, when it can down to playing the sequence back, the volume level on the Moog changed to the highest volume level you can imagine. I felt that was weird since I haven't adjust the volume on the the MPC's track volume nor have I adjusted the volume on the Moog. Afterwards, I merely adjusted the master volume on the Moog to lower the volume level. Everything was normal until I pressed the PLAY/START button on the MPC. Again.. The volume almost blow my speakers. I never had this problem with the 2500. I spoke to a tech at Moog, after trying a few problem solving tips, none of them fix it. He informed me the MPC is sending a MIDI message to reset the Moog's volume and to contact Akai. I haven't heard form Akai yeah. Just wondering if anyone has or had this problem. I have the MPC 5000 MIDI in A and MIDI out A to the Moog Voyager. The MPC is the master sequencer. I am also using OS version 1.01. Can anyone help?

You should always update to the latest available software.

yeah, ..i have a little phatty stage II, ...i have the same problem, ....its wierd.

its like a combination of the record gain knob level, ...and the volume level of the little phatty, ...

....i have an external preamp with a 1/4" line input, ...and yesterday i used it (a p-solo) and it seemed to work better.

...oh, ..i almost forgot, ....MAKE SURE THE SWITCH ON THE BACK OF YOUR MPC 5000 IS SWITCHED TO "LINE IN" AND NOT "MIC IN"

do you know what i'm talking about? .....good luck with all of this, ...i do not believe this is a software issue, ...i think its external, .in the wires and the hookups and the way the sound moves between the two machines.

anyway, ....let me know if any of this helps/works.

I'm not suggesting it is a problem with v1.01 - but it's a good idea to update his MPC5000 to v1.02, just so that we're all on a level playing field when it comes to trying to reproduce the problem.

i re-investigated the problem today and i think i know what 'might' be the problem.

i don't know if this is the moog (or anything else)'s fault, or the software, ...but here's the problem.

...when you are playing around and figuring out what you want, ...you are adjusting knobs on the moog, ...and it seems like the volume knob on the 'moog' is in control.

....lets say at some point you have the sequence you want.... ..then you go into HD record mode, .....and you start to record that 'exact' same sequence...

...the next thing you know is it sound very quiet, .....but if you barely adjust the volume knob on the moog, ...it makes the sound level jump back up to where it was originally.

....so today, ...to record what i made, ....i had to 'assume' that the volume knob on the moog would be ignored during the recording, ...so i put it through my preamp, and into the 5000, ....and i just had to crank the heck out of the volume, ...but was able to come up with something very acceptable.

...i don't know why this happens, ....

You got it.. I'll called Moog tomorrow and ask'em what is the name of the MIDI message the I was told that causes the problem. If i'm lucky I'll call Akai and see if they know how to fix the problem.

I dont have the Moog connected to the MPC5000 audio input. It is only connected to the MIDI INput and MIDI OUTput.

Well, this is the third time I answered this question. Starting to feel like Lampdog. "Page 78 in the manual". The track mixer is what determines your midi volume. The track level in the mixer is saved with the sequence. So once you have your track mixed volume and pan wise (in MIX mode), all that is saved with the sequence. Next time you load up your sequence it's mixed and ready to go. Of course you could insert volume (CC7) and pan (CC10) midi messages at the begininng of each track (in Step Edit) but the track mixer is visual. Viola.

I am more impressed with the MPC5000 each day.

Each time you use a midi track with the 5000 it sends a volume message on that midi channel to whatever module you are user.

Now if the Track Mixer screen has this tracks volume all the way up each time you press play it will resend this maximum volume message.

So essentially to fix this simply go to your track mixer screen on the 5000 and turn down the volume on that particular track. This way the next time you hit play it will send a volume message for where you have the fader set.
