os2 arpeggio - waste of codespace?

Do you guys make any use of the os2 arpeggio?

For me this feature was a dissappointment since you can't write the arpeggio while sequence is playing (or maybe am i missing something?)

Why didn't JJ simply add a "SELECT" feature as a addition for "WHOLE" in program mode?
with this option it would be possible to create arpeggios while the sequence plays

you would simply record a sequence where each of the pads is one step (eg. for 1/8 sequence you would simply record a sequence: pad1,pad2,pad3,pad4,pad5,pad6,pad7,pad8)
after that you would enter the program mode and hit WHOLE, select a sample to be used in all of the pads... Next you would go to pitch or volume or whatever, hit SELECT and select for example steps 1,3,5,7 by touching pads 1/3/5/7 and adjust the value with the jog wheel (just the same way you would do with the whole function except this time the value would only affect the pads you just hit)

this would be a one hell of an arpeggiator since you could have different cut/reso values and envelopes for each step, you could also at some point chance the sample for an individual step as well, endless possibilities i say.

how do u even insert a line pattern into the sequence, i havent played with it much. I wish it had a better velocity range, then i can use that(vel) to modulate the pitch of my external synth.

hit the numeric button while in overdub mode (grid edit mode)

I gave a thought again for this method

it would be great if you actually had the following options under shift key in global program edit:

[f6] whole
[f5] pad select
[f4] LINE PATTERN select
[f3] shift selection right
[f2] shift selection left

maybe the line patterns aren't that usefull after all. They could also be used to select steps(pads) in the global program edit. Anyway, shift left/right (pad+/-) would be also needed so that you still could keep the line patterns list as simple as possible.

it also occured to me that with this method you could actually make 128 step arpeggios

I love the arpeggio function... I just figured that i had'nt figured out how to record it yet. Is there really no way to record the arpeggio in a sequence, or am I just reading this wrong?

press the open window button in grid edit. this will open the x0x (arp) editor.
you can change the sounds via hitting the pads.
to go to the next or previous bar hit the bar nav buttons.


i really appreciate the possibility of programming via x0x sometimes.
i load my goldbaby 808 & 909 programs and voilá: the most versatile

i always thought the arpeggiator was mode->pad11

i still wish you could use shift+pad(xx) to navigate to certain step of the sequence
using left/right buttons to navigate between steps feels stupid.

yo read up the page, press numeric in grid edit to insert line patterns.

love the arpeggiator. bump a note forward, pull it back, adjust the tune. i don't use it all the time, but it isn't a bad place to start.

Wow didn't know that was there! Seems a bit redundant having the pattern sequencer and this. Is the only difference that with the x0x ediot you can only insert that pattern directly to the grid, where as with the patter editor you can save different patterns then choose which ones to insert later? Or I am I missing somthing?
