how to setup sounds/notes to cutoff the one before it?

hey,

got my MPC 2000xl late yesterday, up late ****' with it now and im lovin it. Just wanna know how do i set it up so each note cuts off the last note when played, i can't find it in the manual, and i used the search here but cant find anything, any quick replies would be helpful,
just spent ages chopping up the 'do the funky penguin' break off a 45, and a lil jermaine jackson tune, just wana try sequencing sumfing, its 1.30 am here and i got work in the morning!

Believe me i did search,, but i've got the actual manual i was looking in there, i didn't think about downloading the PDF for the ease of the searching function, cheers again for that li'l idea.

I read your post about 'noob' questions last night, so thanks for the reply, honestly any questions i end up asking here, i would've done my best to find out for myself beforehan, through the manual and internet searches. The internet is a powerful tool. And i'm gonna be readin' that manual front to back, any chance i get, i'm taking it to work with me.

I'm lovin' the MPC2kxl man, so glad i didn't get a 500 or 1000, just feels authentic and more inspiring to look at. I've wanted one of these babies since it came out, was it like 10 years ago? This is the first time i've held/touched one, after countless times spotting them in second hand shop windows and magazines and never being able to afford one, so i'm well happy. A little pissed though, i ordered a nice Ortofon super OM30 from HongKong, and its been 3 weeks! damn customs.

don't kill me now, but i looked at the manual and i had read this yesterday and experimented with it but i can only figure out how to set up 1 pad to cutoff another 1 pad, how do you setup say i have a sample chopped up in several pieces, so when i press any pad in any sequence it cuts off the sound of the last pad playing, whichever one it is, rather than a specific one.

If you could help me out, that'd be great?

more specificaly i want the pad to play fully until another pad is pressed without holding the pad down also, when i put the voice overlap to note off it only plays while its pressed.

a pad can only cutoff two other selected pads? thats a little dissapointing, i didn't know that.

Dont think it works that way.. The only way is to have note on and hold the pad down..

i think 2-4 chains should be enough, i'm gonna try and stick to sampling as little of the records i'm sampling as possible, and do what i can with what i got, so thats cool.
