Yeah there's rumors that roland wanna come up with a MV successor.
But I'm 100% satisfied with my MV 8000 so far.

Before I start.. I haven't fkd with n MPC 5000 or an MV-8800 yet... only my MV-8000 & 2000XL.
Yeah man... the MV-8000 is sick! It's got all kind of bells and whistles thus being an all-in-one full production studio. Honestly the MV is way more intense than the 2KXL even though I still use my 2KXL. It was a definite learning curve coming from the MPC for me.

IMO... The bad about the MV... the pads are alot stiffer even though you can adjust the sensitivity of them, when doing a track you really have to listen to the metronome when recording (the scrolling cursor on the track looks a bit off when it's right on the beginning of a measure), there is no scrolling cursor when editing a sample (You really have to listen and mark the parts you want to truncate) and the sampling rate is set at 44.1khz (I'm fine with it but some people want a higher rate).

IMO... The good about the MV... memory (up to a Gig), internal harddrive (up to 120Gb), USB connectivity, mouse and VGA monitor output (if you can still find these, it's lot easier to just point and click on a big monitor. Roland no longer makes them but it comes standard on the MV8800), multi effects, 32 pad banks (even though I barely use all 4 on my 2KXL), direct input hook up for turntables (I dj so I use my mixer with effects when it's connected to my 1200's), cd-rom drive to load/rip samples and burn a mastered song (you can replace with a DVD reader but the MV won't write to it.), also Chicken Systems came out with the MV Kit Creator Pro program to edit/tweek samples on the computer and transfer them to the MV via USB.

I'd definitely try to find both the MPC 5000 and MV-8800 so that you can test out both yourself. People buy the MV thinking it's just like an MPC and it's not. I've had 3 friends buy one and all 3 ended up selling it because it was just to much for them to learn. Needless to say I kept mine and now they are pissed because they see there is so much more the MV can do.

I haven't had a single crash or haven't found any bug when using my mv 8800. i've been using it almost a year now. It's not pretty, but it does it's work like it's supposed to do. comparing to my previous mpc (2500), this sounds better, so much better effects, chopping with markers is great, it's easier to program with this, sequencer is nice because you can play the loop and record at the same time your thing and press undo/redo and record while it's playing.. some people have been criticizing mv's quantize.. i don't know so much about that, because i'm not using quantize. I think when you buy the additional output for mv 8800 it becomes a very powerful machine.. but really i don't know.. i think mpc 5k is a monster too. but for me it's reeeally important that my machine don't corrupt files and come up with some system error messages all of a sudden. I think mv is lacking features like simult pad and 16 level with different settings, well it can spread 16 levels by velocity and tune.

i just copped a used mv 8000 for 600 canadian last week and put the 3.52 update in it ive used the mpc 5000 cause one of my boys has one and if the 8800 is anything like the 8000 than it will run rings around the 5000 to me it looks like akai is playing catch up with roland the 5000 is a wack jacked version of the 8000 and 8800 i know people knock the mv and say the quantize is wack but if you take the time to learn the machine trust me you can bang out some heat. producer m16 who did the duffle bag boys beat for playaz circle uses it so does apex the cat who did i get money for 50 cent . chad beatz who worked with 50 ,young buck , and some r&b acts does to and the rza if you hear any leaked tracks off the only bulit for cuban links 2 its all over it . or check you tube for this cat name A3 he got some heat.

I have a MPC 5000, but I think the Roland unit is a good one! Try it yourself and you'll find out what features or ways of working you prefer and you'll decide for the right box to go!

Just a note, since a put the 3.52 Os back on , the MV didn't crashed on me once and it is at least 6 hours daily in use.

First i got a mpc 1k for about 1 year,then i bought a new mv 88k which i had for one year too,then i got a 2kxl and an 60I,I had both for about 3 months,and now im looking for a 3000 to be my final machine

Pro about the mv
-easy too use
-as said before,almost everything can be changed in realtime
-can hook it up to a vga whats really nice
-mouse use,not my thing at all
-nice effects but never used them really

contra
-whole machine feels like a cheap chinese pirate product^^
-i broke my taptempobutton cause of these kinda toy quality
-for me personally its overloaded...too many features which gets me far away from making music the way i want it
-i feel the mpc´s especially the older ones much more because i think they sound punchier,thaty my personal feeling

but as said before too ,you should try that shit out and decide which machine you really feel....for me its the 3000 dont need any more features.

I actually doubt you ever worked on the MV when reading this.
I had the MPC 3000 and the 60 and the MV is the only current beatbox that rudimentary can **** with the build quality of these 2
Its sturdy as it gets plus it`s not being made in china unlike the new MPC`s but in Japan (like the 3000 and 60) lol

Damn I had to take most of the things I said about the build quality of the MV back.
Yesterday my F Button straight fell into the MV?! I wasn`t hammering on it or anything.

So I checked MV Nation and it seems to be very common for the buttons on the mv to break and fall into the casing like that. (since they are just glued to the case?!!)
I was like WTF?

I bought the MV 3 months ago (brandnew!) and was gentle on it like I always em (on every drum-machine I`ve owned no beating or hammering the pads or buttons.)

This is ridicolus a 2000$ machine with the buttons glued to the case and breaking easy like that during normal usage.

(You also can`t just glue the button back on since it`s a set of buttons in on piece)

Plus you have to take the mainboards (basically the whole components apart to reach the top-panel buttons) it takes 1 1/2 hours to take all the components apart and reach that shit according to roland .
I opened a couple of devices and MPC`s to fix this and that. But I was schocked after I`ve opened the MV cause it`s obviously not an cakewalk to get this managed.
I almost like(d) everything on the MV but this is unacceptable.

So everone who is considering to purchase The MV please have in mind that this is not an individual case but rather common on the MV Buttons (see MV nation)
It seemed like those buttons who didn`t broke was those who wasn`t used at all (VGA/mouse working) lol

P.S. Yes I have the warranty and can have roland to send me those buttons but I have to take the whole machine apart (believe me It is not as easy as it sounds to be) + It can happen again and I`m without gear for days now(hopefully just days) lol.

I mean common the shit was new and it breaks down like that after 3 months cause the buttons on it are crappy in general?

P.S. must be pretty fun when playing live and your **** button breaks down on you and fall into the casing.

The button are on a flex skeleton and is replaced for around $20. It simply snaps into place.Button breaks are no more common on the MV than the MPC.

The most button break is the play / stop button when dudes slap ish out of it. Other cases usually involve the 8000 after a good while of use.

Most importantly your box is well under warranty just get an RA and get it fixed.

Not true , I think they are trying to discourage you from doing it yourself. Both main boards right out nce you remove all of the screws. i did it for an old 8000 it 45 minutes. The 2nd board is indeed tucked in.

BTW- I used the control surface since I got it and have had no problems I use it about 5 days a week. I think you got a bad stamping of buttons but it's still not acceptable.

Man I know the MV heads defend the machine to death.
I was the same, it took me 3 months of working with it to love everything about it.

But as the the f button broke, I was like yo what did I did to deserve this I handled all types of mpc's some of em were 15 years old and then I buy this 2000$ Roland high-end bbox (not even secondhand I think I really saw it coming lol) and thats what happen after 3 months?

In some previous threads I posted that the MV keep freezing on me like 10 times a day. Thas was cause I had it running with a faulty OS. I put the 3.52 on and it never froze on me again.

What I'm tryin to say is I have accepted the unstable OS that I had at that time, still loved it, but cheap ass buttons?
I know the style I use that and any other beatbox I`ve ever had so I know for sure that it wasn't my fault.
