scratch magazine a new magazine for producer's

the first edition is in stores now with DR.DRE on the front . it is filled with interviews and the list of gear that each producer is using almost everyone of them has atleast one mpc DR.DRE has 6 mpc's and they seem to be all hooked up together .the magazine seems to be selling quick i had to go to a few different stores just to be told that they sold out before I found my copy .pick one up and let me know what you think .this should get you all some inspiration . and you will be able to see how many producers rely on the mpc

it's been out since may but this is still the first issue .it's new compared to how long the source has been out i'm not here to start arguing with you guy's I'm here to spread the word about this good magazine for producer's I just picked it up last week after overlooking it for a couple of months thinking it was just another magazine with dre on the front and I'm sure there is somebody that dosn't wonna overlook it . so go get it if you have not already .

we respect that jd but people have been spreading the word on scratch since it dropped thats why some of us were wondering where u been at..

I'm not too impressed with the magazine. Reminds me of Home Recording and those lil production spots in the parent zine XXL. There are some UK zines that are stronger. It does have potential though. But, we'll see.

Scratch is definitely better than some of the mags I've pick up over 'ere in England. It's dedicted more to urban production and djing. I guess you can say bedroom dj's and producers. I'm sold on it.

I think it may end up showing pictures and short pieces on more urban producers and djs, but I'm concerned about the quality and depth of the discussion. Right now, it looks like a lot of Hiphop media...a groupie fest and an advertiser's dream to tap into a new and growing audience.

Yeah. I've been looking forward to seeing Black contemporary popular musicians and artists seriously discuss their creative process for years. I used to write to Keyboard and EM asking for such. So, it's about time. I hope it's about quality.

I think scratch magazine can be good and bad for hip hop music but more good then bad. I like that some of the producers in the book wasnt using the same stuff but alot was. I would like to see more talk about what producers do in the studio to get what ever sound they get. I would like to see if all the hype about using this or that is really true. I know there has to be somebody using a low budget mic or pre amp( maybe not) to get this or that sound and none of us knew it. Now that lil kid wanting to get in music has something to look at. my girl son plays instruments and i got me and him a scratch magazine so he can dream even more and want to become even better than i did when i was coming up. Hell xxl and the source just giving credit to the producers just a few years ago. Now we got a whole magazine. The only thing i dont like about the magazine is the unknown part that they make known. What i mean is i dont really know what timbaland dre or the neptunes or any producers really use and when i get my gear and play something i might be thinking of how would so and so may have done it(with out coping there whole style) and came up with something 100 different from style to sound now your gona see alot of kids running to get this or that cause they really know what somebody uses and music might start sound even more the same. Over all im glad this magazine has come out and now i cant wait for the next one.

I personally think the mag is dope. You guys must be crazy if you think you're gonna get too much more detail. Producers/beatmakers don't share technique like that. I don't! All we're going to get is what equipment they use and what they use it for, maybe a little more. Take in what you can and be original.

Considering the wait, I ain't excited.
Somebody else may need it and may love it too.
Good for them and more power to the cats who created it.

Personally, if you stick around this forum long enough, you'll get just as much, if not more valuable info and it's pretty much for free.

Anyway, we'll see what happens.

How often is it supposed to drop?

So far it looks like it's issued quarterly. The one with Dre on the cover is the Summer edition.

I just hope it doesn't end up like other music mags out there. Ya know, the first 30 pages are advertisements and another 30 pages are about fashion.
