Loading time

Hi, I have an MPC 2000XL with a Zip drive. The loading time is too slow for me, especially during my sessions live.
If I buy an internal card drive to replace the internal zip drive, will decrease the loading time?
At present with the zip drive, the time to load 32MB is about 90 seconds.
How long does it takes to load the same amount of data stored on a compact flash?

Yes, a CF reader will be faster.

But just to make sure...what type of ZIP drive do you have installed (100/250/internal/SCSI), and what disk size do you use with it?

I noticed that SD cards work even faster. Smaller samples and samples stored in snd format instead of WAV will of course also improve the loading times.

Why?

Smaller samples load faster than big samples no ?
And WAV files take longer to load than snd files, probably something os related, i guess the MPC will do some conversion of the wav file upon loading it into memory, a step that is skipped when the sample is already in snd format.

Load time mainly depends on the data size you want to load. Actually, the same amount of data split up into more files will take longer to load.

About the SND format, I don't believe those take longer to load then WAV format files as long as the file is the same size, but if you claim it is that way, I will have to believe that.

Saving and Loading on the XL is even more faster when you have an internal HD.

Does anybody know if CF cards labeled "high speed" or "extreme" are any faster than regular ones. i had been using a regular card when i first installed the card reader and it was pretty fast but i ended up returning it because it was a 2 gig and found out they max out at 1gb. So they didnt have 1gb but they had another 2gb card but it was high speed and it was on sale cheap so i copped it.

Its seems like the loading and saving speed is super quick compared to the regular card or maybe its just in my head.

I'll just say if you got a card reader... you already have the fastest medium to save/load samples on your MPC.
If you are really that impatient and really need to know how much faster a "high speed" card is to an "extreme" card (maybe a few micro seconds difference???), then you really need better time management.
