Hello guys.
When I've recieved my MPC1k, on the 1st day I thought: "man, it will rock" sure it is, but there are some features that I rarely use. We all have diffrent ideas how we should run this game and it's the point of this topic and it's when the fun begins!
It's not next "what is the best" type topic, but about your best personall settings. How do you fully benefit MPC1k, what feature you really dislike in it? What effect do you mostly use and opposite what effect you don't use? What is the biggest adventage of MPC1k for you and what is the worst feature in it?

Personally I think mastering thingy in MPC1k is very bad, maybe better than none, but still poor... 2nd slicing samples in MPC is pain in the ass for me. I use only few effects such as delay and reverb (maybe I'm not that advenced but I never really felt like it is important for me to play with effect shit). Patched phrase is option which I've never used. I like the way you can play the sound and the whole sequencing thing as it puts arrangment into easier task. What I really hate is that when I chop some samples, then I play and when I need to fill beat with additional sounds I have to stop my whole sequence go load sound to a program and then I can check how it fits my beat, but mostly it doesn't - time consuming.

yeh as a rule of thumb i have the master EQ and COMP always off, i prefer to shape my sounds individually using the adsr, take that with a grain fo salt though, we all have different routines.

i also prefer to shape my sounds individually with ADSR rather than seeking the same effect via compression. that comes sparingly way later in the game.

2nd slicing samples in MPC is pain in the ass for me.

man, that's crazy. slicing in the mpc is easier to me than any other slicing software out there, especially Slow Sam Recycle.

i couldn't live without Midi Grid Edit or GPE. i couldn't live without the chopping. i couldn't live without alternate loop or ADSR, and i definitely couldn't live without SIMULT (soon to be the improved CHORD!!!!)

i could lose ALL the effects and be happy
also my style of music doesn't lend itself to LINE PATTERN

slicing on an mpc is the easiest i have ever used. even the 2kxl kills it in this task. effects arent really that important to me as i do outboard processing. program layers are one of the best features to me. but it eats up alot of voices. and that brings me to what i think is the weak point of the 1k. the 32 voices. believe it or not i have dropped notes with only 5 tracks playing. and that sucks ass.

in my opinion, it's the lack of proper MIDI implementation for control of various internal parameters (like LFO)

we can put any cc we want on a q-link to send out external control..but we are extremely limited with what we can control internally from the q-link or external midi controllers....

whatever, its pretty cool what you can do with it still :)

pitch shift is horrible....and useless
with dozens of options, everything sound same...very lofi (sometimes toy are after this, but what if not ???>)
it's massive waste of space code...
JJ get rid off it and make 2 options :
1. lofi - current
2. hifi - much better algorithm and quality

that's it...
no A,B, C, and plenty of music styles....

my 2 p.

Useless features to me: Patched Phrase and Tap Tempo.

I love all of the effects on the 1K. They sound beautiful to me. Sometimes I wish there were more, but with less, it forces me to be more creative, which is always good. Timestretch and pitch shift both sound lovely and you can mask the machines deficiencies with other tricks.

Favorite feature: Chopping and slicing. It doesn't get any easier or more precise while still being so quick.

Bad: If you use several samples per beat and load the entire song to be sampled like I do, the limited ram is a pain, but then again there are workarounds that enhance your creativity and make the process so much more enjoyable.

note repeat (using triplets) is a feature i didn't expect to have any use for but find it really useful.i use it very sparingly for a short little pulse. nice for adding a little flair to a bongo pattern.

wow!

i use tap tempo at the beginning of every beat that comes off the brain quick...right after BARS, i tap tempo to whats in my head, then start to program...
