I noticed on the MPC 1000 you can assign a mute group so just say you had 7 chopped piano samples you could all say assign them to mute group 1 sound when ever one of those pads is hit if the previous sound playing was also in that mute group 1 its cut off. But if its not in that mute groups its left to play. How do i archive this on a MPC 2000XL ?.

There are no mute groups on the mpc 2000xl. You can however define in the params screen of pad assignment that it mutes up to 2 other pads. Check your manual.

search the 2kxl manual for "mute assign".

Only 2 ?, so you have to know and program what sample will cut the next off ?

yes and yes

Edit: actually you define which pad cuts which other (max 2) pad(s) off.

Cool i get it know, got worried and though that the mute assign was on that same page as the SIMLUT and you could only either be muting or SIMLUT. I guess you can just mono say some piano chop to see what chops what of then go in and program the correct mute.

there are a couple of workarounds to the mute group, which are not great but easier occasionally. this is for the 2kclassic, don't know if they're the same for the XL.

1. Make all the chopped samples NOTE OFF and then play them as you wanted to - this works around the muting but you have to hold the pads for the chop's length and you can't repeat a note/sample easily (unless you double it onto another pad)

2. Doesn't work all the time but - Go into program mode, select the pad which has your non-chopped sample, highlight the filter section and hit open window. Switch the values on the bottom two options (can't recall them exactly, but one will be 0 and the other 100, switch them) Then go to main screen, hit 16 levels on the non-chopped sample (i.e. loop or whatever - forgot to mention this only works on samples that are measured or can loop) and select velocity. Then you will have your sample "chopped" onto 16 pads, but it doesn't really do it accurately. Actually if you have a sample that isn't a loop, you can get some interesting results. Especially if the sample doesn't have drums in it.

actually on that second one, it's not in the "filter" section but in the envelope section. sorry bout that. actually i'm not sure, don't have my mpc wth me right now.

Have you actually done this? I heard someone else claiming this trick worked a few months ago but what he was saying didn't really make sense.

All you have to do is go into program (shift and 6) then go into parameters highlight mono or poly what ever it is at press open window and Bam. Al so just to let you know MPC 200xl only 2 but 2000 a few. Also you can get reason which they made a MPC look a like and you can do the same but there is not limit of how many pads you can assign to mute. Peace and good luck

If he doesn't get it by now, 2008-2014, he will never understand it.

LOL!
This must be the most asked question for pre-MPC-1000 models.
I say, chop small and you can get by without mute group function.
