multi-tracking your beats mpc 1000

Forgive me well in advance if I come off sounding like a complete newb (which I am), but how do you multitrack a beat in a software program such as Amadeus Pro (thats what im using) without all the parts becoming off beat? I am also using a poor-mans interface usb ADS tech instant music to record (i know its ghetto but thats all i have right now).

Heres my problem, I record each track separately which works fine, say I record the kick, snare, high hats and all that on separate tracks. well when i play it back it doesnt sound right, I try to move the tracks manually, but it never sounds correct.. its always off beat.. is there anyway i can just get it to automatically snap together?

or does the mpc1000 have a way to play like a certain amount of dead air before the beat comes in so that all the sounds start on time? thank you for your patients and time. (and yes I am aware of my awful punctuation and grammer, sorry!)

Did you set the tempo in the program to match the tempo of the beat? Are you recording each track from the same starting point?

does your interface have midi? if so, you get a midi cable and plug the out of the interface to the in of the mpc.

then you will have to set the mpc as the midi slave and your daw to master.

if your soundcard doesnt have midi, go get a m audio midisport uno. its a one in one out midi adapter that will allow you to sync the mpc to the daw. i just set my guys up last weekend.

if you dont understand what im saying, its time to do some studying because these terms are very common with recording audio.

Yep, it's time to step it up. If I were you, I'd look for a used m-audio delta 1010. This way you'll be able to run basically any type of daw program...ie: pro tools m powered, cubase/sonar or whatever.

dude you dont really need midi i dont even use it when i make a beatt when multi tracking into abelton which should be simular to your daw. this is what you do , im sure your familar with the 4 outputs each 1000 mpc has, what i do is send 1 hit through each wire into my interface and then into my computer so that i have each hit in seperate tracks. i record the loop like with all the tracks armed so everything records at the same time in sepearte tracks. dont use the stero out use the 4 main outs. so when everythings recorded i highlight all the tracks and then set the start and en points using hte kick as reference.. and i highlight everything so the margin is being set on the olther tracks AT THE SAME areas at the same time since there all highlighted and im moving the start and end points get it. and then there i can copy paste it once i got it synced its alot easier then it sounds man .

just record everything together at one time in sepearte tracks, hopefully your interface has atleast 4 inputs though one for hte kick one for the snare one for the hat one for the sample.. i play my bass on ableton after looping and setting the proper start and end points ... send me a message if you want me to re explain shit

U can also use the mains outs as 2 extra mono outs, just hard pan left and hard pan right.

Or what about the empty bar with hihats trick Lamp? I still use that one if I want to record more then 6 tracks

I have a EMU 0404 PCI for Sale... For $50.00 its in perfect working order like new but its Vista drivers are a Beta and they suck. Only buy this if you have a computer running Windows XP. This card is serious in XP. If interested get at me...

naw, im using a powerbook G4.. anyways thanks for everyones responses, it helped a lot!

easiest way i think for your setup is this....

Solo a track, export to WAV on the MPC. then solo the next track, export to wav on mpc, and so on. Then you can drop all these thru USB on your computer, just align them to 0:00:01 on amadeus pro. done.

what is that trick, now? i searched the forum but couldnt find anything about that. is it like a makeshift tempo track?
