JJ Pad Sensitivity Adjustments Request

I believe that JJ can program way better sensitivity in JJOS for both new and old pads. I have the original pads and when I switched to JJOS2 the sensitivity level went way down below JJOS1, and now its hard to even use the thing. And I know its not the pads dying because it switched when I switched the OS. So really I dont use the mpc now because of that. I can put it on a harder lower surface below me, and its not that bad, but I use the padkontrol on a higher surface now with GURU and am used to better sensitivity.

I think its possible to make both old and new pads operate with better sensitivity, but am not sure if anyone else besides a few experience this to warrant a request or change.

I think JJ began to program towards those with the new pads, and did not think about how that would effect the old pads. For some reason JJOS2 made a drastic change in lowering sensitivity in old pads.

I have the new pads & jj os 2.I have put the sensitivity to the max and pad on level to 1.Still i have NO sensitivity

mine work sweet, the pads are no where near as responsive as my 2000xl ones were, but i just put it down to akai being cheap cunts. i find the rubber pretty stiff that came with the pad upgrade.

I agree with Nanoloop. Being a 2000xl user first for a few years, and now a 1000 user, I can say that the pads are not as good. But that was bound to happen. Pretty much everything is cheaper on the 1000, hardware-wise (jog wheel, buttons, apparent shelf life of the internals as well). The huge advantages of the 1000 are, of course, its ability to interface with a computer directly, larger internal memory, and potential storage capacity--not to mention the wonderland of the JJOS. I suppose it's always true that the hardware just gets cheaper as things progress. "Cheap cunts" indeed.

If there is a way to get the pads on the 1000 to be more responsive, I'm all about it.

the sensor technology and the rubber hardness are virtually identical to that which is in the 2000. on a broad scale, the problem is not with the hardware, but rather with user calibration settings. in rare cases, ie what appears to have happened to Santoro, the problem appears to be deeper than just calibration issues and would probably reflect a rare problem with the hardware.

my pads are as sensitive and responsive as those found in the korg padkontrol.

nanoloop - one of the factors of "stiffness" is the 1 mm gap in between sensor and rubber. this causes a less reproducible pad performance.

ok just wanted to bring this back up with a screen shot to maybe help some of the people having issues. this is how my pads are set up and they are almost identical to feel and sensitivity to my xl pads. im on os1 but settings should be the same for os2. note the 25's above each track. the default is 18. if your on 25 with pad on level at 1 and curve on A. and you still have no sensitivity. then you most likely have a hardware issue and you should take it up with the retailer you purchased your pad set from.

I have this and have the older pads. It really is not a huge issue, and probably getting the new pad set would fix it. It just seems to be a hastle as I was able to have enough responsiveness on OS1 that it wasn't a real problem. This even lower responsiveness in OS2 makes it much more difficult to use, although it is not impossible. So its either new pads or midi the pad kontrol for me.

You have something else going on.
I have tried a new set of old pads and the new style pads on both OS1 ans OS2 and both are really responsive, OS2 may even be a little better.
Having owned every MPC I will say that the 1k is less responsive when compared to the XL.
In fact the real MPC with the best response from the pads top me still remains the 4k, but with the adjustments you can make on the JJ OS you can get really responsive pads.
Just requires good pads, proper calibration and a good understanding of what you are really adjusting when you do the calibration.
I had old style pads that worked really well but order new old style when I ordered my new style pads and it was amazing to see how much response the old set of old style pads had lost that you didn't really notice.
A properly adjusted set of new old style or new style pads feel really good on OS2.

ok thanks that might be the answer there. Its possible I just had beat the response out of them over time, and only noticed when I switched from os1 to os2, as it somehow made it a bit more prominent. So thats it right there thanks! This means im not crazy!

i wonder how hard it would be to make a nice juicy soft set of silicon rubber pads for the 1000.

my black pads are as soft as my xl pads. they are definitely softer than the grey pads that come with the new pad kit.
