Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I have problems with the MPC's front USB port:

In the past, it occurs that an USB qwerty keyboard plugged into that port
for the first time worked fine , then unplugging and again plugging it in,
the power lights of the keyboard don't light up any more and no function is given.
It looks like the power supply isn't available any more.

I have the same problem with an USB card reader - which before always
worked fine with many cf-cards from different manufacturers. Now, even the
power supply LED of the reader is off.

Therefore, my question is: Should the power LED of any plugged in USB device like
qwerty keyboards and card readers should light up - independent on whether it is
actually correctly recognizing the device?

In that case, I believe my 4K has a hardware issue.

Thanks, TSR

It is fairly easy to open up the mpc and see what's going on, but if you haven't held a screwdriver in your life, I suggest you take it in for repair.
To answer your initial question. Yes, the leds should light up. There is a problem with your front USB port. It is possible to order these things separate for about 40USD.

Thanks for your answer!

I remember plugging in and out the USB keyboard while the
MPC was turned on. Is it possible that this USB port isn't hot-pluggable?

Maybe I'll get a spare USB port. I have no fear to install it myself, as I have
already changed the van, installed a silent 2,5 Samsung HD and the optional
8 OUT CARD.

Problem solved. The cable connection wasn't attached properly to the main board.

Now I enjoy fast sequence/sample renaming. Yep!

I intermittently get my USB keyboard not responding. I guess it's likely the same issue.....
