Computer not recognizing my 500...

And it used to.

I only connect the USB when I need to update the OS. I haven't done it since 1.30

When I scroll to USB and connect it to my computer, it says 'connected' on my 500, but no response from my PC. I go to add new hardware, it can't find any...I continue through 'Add new hardware' and find a list of drivers and devices or whatever. I click 'MPC500 hard disk device' and it says that it is "working properly". But I can't find it on My Computer.

I did a search but couldn't find anything.

When I connected for the first time my 500 to the pc (with the 128 MB Akai Compact Flash), I wasn't able to open it with double click, but only > right click> open.
I don't know if it's the same case...

Which CF do you use?

I would do these :

1. try to use a different USB cable and port.

2. try to connect another USB device and see if your PC can see it,
normally you hear a sound, when connecting a USB device...do you hear that?

3.try to disconnect any xtra USB devices(for a moment) , just to minimize address confliction .

4. i am sure you go to START >>> MY computer>>> and see if your 500 is there ??

I updated it on my friends computer, so it's no big deal. I found out my computer won't recognize anything. I keep it clean so it probably has something to do with the way I share a USB cable with all of my different things.

Thanks for your replies, but it's not recognizing my MPC at all, or anything. I think it's a computer problem, not a MPC problem.

Theres probably another usb device that is conflicting with it try disconnecting something maybe a printer or a external hard drive or something of that nature. Your best bet is to just get a cf card reader they are cheap and its much faster than hooking up the mpc to the cpu.

Thats the truth. Not only is it faster, its also safer because I would sometimes get garbled samples when transferring lots of data over the USB connection. Probably fine for a sample or two, but I dont trust it for backing up my whole card.

What I would like to know if anyone knows is what would be quicker a pcmcia expansion slot adapter, or a USB multi adapter ?

If I had money, I would have a Mac already...but that money would be used on an MPC 2500 first.

And I have a CF card reader for my computer already, it's not recognizing that or my MPC. I don't know what's going on. Everything else is doing fine on my computer. Weird.

Well since you can see things with the USB but not access them I would reckon that they aren't burnt out but its the drivers. When my PC hardware starts to act wonky I reinstall everything. Your OS will get junked up and slow after awhile even if you keep it clean. I usually reinstall everything at least once a year, sometimes more if I've been fooling around. Its basically cleaning house and everything runs a lot better afterwards.
