jj-first or learn the basics on akai os

hello to all, this is my first post. i just ordered a 2500, i have downloaded and read the manual already, but have spent very little time with the 2500 or any mpc. i am pretty savy have been using software stuff for a decade. would you recommend learning the basics of the original os for a few weeks before upgrading to jj or would just get jj right off the bat. thanks for your replys

I waited for a few months before getting JJ and can't say it was of any benefit whatsoever. JJ kicks the Akai OS's ass big time

don't think it would hurt to give the original os a spin before you change over. I've had my mp for about a year now and moved to jj (3.08, free vs) about 2 months ago. This free version is basically identical to the old one in terms of look and use but has a few of the jj improvements added. Is def a step up, even at this basic version...
do miss the direct rec tho...

The Akai OS is a waste on all levels and you will ask yourself what took you so long to move.
If you were using JJ OS1 or OS2 it would be pretty obvious, 3.08 is nothing like the real versions of the JJ OS.
The free JJ OS is also a waste of time you should start with the download of OS1.
If you test drive OS1 you will buy your password in less than 24 houirs of trying it.
Then of course the OS2 kills OS1 and XL has us all waiting to get passwords.

learn the basics on the FREE jj os. it's akai os but just more practical. like chopping and zooming on the free os is lightyears easier and faster than the akai os. i would without a doubt rock the free os to do my thing if the pay ones weren't available. you cant front on the free os. it's just so butter. cheeers

Is all I can say.

The only reason the free 1k/2500 OS appealed to us was because it was all we had and was better than the Akai OS.
Once JJ gave us the paid OS's the free became a joke just like the Akai OS.
At $39 is was a no brainer to buy and now even at the new price of $49 it's still a no brainer.
It's just too many things missing from the Akai or free JJ to even consider them.
I know it's free but it not giving anything in comparison, baffles me how anyone could try the paid and then go with the free instead of paying that little price for a password.
Too make it worst when XL is released and most of us have paid the total $103 (since we got OS1 at the cheaper price it's $103 instead of $113) for all the updates it will still be a great deal based on what it gives us.

Still if you feel that the free is just so butter, well good for you.

Went from akai os to free 3.08 jj os. Never tried the jj os1 since there was no way to save work without getting the full option and didnt have $$ at the time - (the US $$ is 2x the nz $$)
Saving is still poss to do in the 3.08 free version and you get some added features missin from the akai os, so for me it's a good option - at least til our $$ improves or i get that extra foldin...

well sov your opinion is completely different from mine. i use os1 right now but i loved the free jj when i was using it. it was just a natural "upgrade" to the paid ones. don't sleep on the free one tho. if you can't use the free one you prolly make shtty beats anyway. not everyone is trying to spend more money to make better beats. i'd recommend the free jj os to anyone who's trying to see what time it is beyond akai's crappy os. apeace

I'm just backing up my harddrive now to change back to akai...i remember it being not half as good as jj when i got it but nothing saves right on my JJ os ii use os 1 5.53...

I can't create new folders
When I save projects the samples disapear?

I have made some pretty decent beats and all are now gone because of some faults i can't fugure out.....

You are a new user not an old user so you weren't here to understand what the free OS was about and why it's limited by choice.
The free OS was just JJ showing he could give a free OS that was bug free and had better flow than the Akai OS.
This was so that the paid OS would be openly accepted by the user.
We had cried to Akai over and over about the same bugs and they wouldn't address them.

It's not about the fact that your beats are just as bad with the paid OS as they were with the free so you feel you wasted your money.
It's about the night and day functionality and workflow the that they offer.
Truth be told if $49 is critical to someone owning the 1k then they should have went with FL Studio or Audacity.

I have never experienced any saving problems on the JJ OS on either a 2500 or 1k?
I just make new folders and save the entire memory to HD or CF card.
