HELP!!! decisions to make i would appreciate any input.

Getting MPC500 need to know what accessories you would get. I need the cable to hook it up to laptop. Can I sample parts of songs from my mp3's instead of sampling from vinyl?
I really am trying to get a nice set up going to learn somethings and make some beats.

I just need to know the names of the chords and anyother things you guys would buy, w/out breaking all my bread.

mp3 to mpc requires a computer, usb cable, cf card to load the samples to. if you want to chop in the computer, you will need an audio editor. audacity 2.0 is the free one of choice i believe.

vinyl to mpc requires a turntable (tt), phono preamp or mixer, 1/4" to same cables or 1/4" to rca cables.

and either some decent headphones or studio monitors. if you use your mp3 player headphones, you will need an 1/8" to 1/4" adapter.

that should get you started making beats. someone can explain tracking the beats out to you once you get to that point in a couple of months. good luck, have fun, experiment, and DON"T FORGET TO READ THE MANUAL.

thx man good looks, im prolly jus gunna go way w/out vinyl right now unless my friend will sell me his old tt and the mixer or phono preamp?? by the way if i do decide to buy a mixer or phono preamp which is better and whats a good one? not expensive but gets the job done you kno? sry im askin alot i feel good looks on helpin me out though much appreciated.

i bought a bbe phono preamp from guitar center for $50. i have an old stereo component turntable that my uncle gave me a few years ago, and a low to mid end shure stylus. im not a dj, so i dont need the technique 1200 or whatever the standard is. im just trying to get the sounds off of the record into the mpc. or through my speakers for listening purposes.

You can of course just play the mp3 from whatever device that can play mp3 and sample the audio output of that device into your mpc.

Also when u have chopped a sample from a MP3 make sure u convert it to WAV;)

You can't chop an MP3 without converting it first anyway.

I know but thats when u chop inside of the MPC but i use a software to chop samples and then i drag all the samples in to t he mpc;)

just something to remember, as stilo pointed out:

MPC will not recognize mp3 files. you will need a converter (WAVosaur has a batch converter, so does audacity i think. there's also tons of drag-n-drop multiformat converters for free on the interweb)
