Why Cant I figure this out?

Hey everyone,

Its super embarrassing that i cant figure this out on my own. I used to have a 2000XL and a Triton Le that i used together with no problem. I sold them both and upgraded my gear.

Now im working with a MPC1000blk with JJOS1 4.9 and a Triton Classic.

Im having a hell of a time getting them to work together like my 2000XL and Triton LE did.

I have searched and read and tried and tried the tutorials i could find to no avail.

I have the Triton hook to in 1 and out A.

I have tried all the setting changes i can.

I want to be able to play the keys on the Triton, have the MPC record the midi notes and trigger the sound generator on the Triton. I want to be able to change the patches in the Triton sequencer corresponding to the midi channel numbers on the MPC.

What am i missing, can someone straighten me out? this is embarrassing to me.

Don't rule out a bad cable....

I didnt, i swapped them and got the same results.

The MPC pads will trigger the sound assigned the the Trition midi channel thats selected, but with local control on and off the MPC will not record what im playing on the keys. But it will record the notes i trigger via the pads.

There is just something im not setting up correctly on either the MPC or the Triton.

Anyone?

To clarify, are you trying to automate MIDI channel changes, or just use the MP to sequence the Korg, using the Korg as input and multi-timbral sound module. I have a set up like that with a Korg MicroX and it works like a charm. If that's what you're after PM me and I'll send along some details about the settings I've got running.

Yes what im trying to do is use the keys from the triton classic, with local control off, to send the played midi messages into the MPC, which records said notes, and sends them out to the sound generator section of the Triton for playback.

i dont understand.. u said u upgraded your mpc...u sold the 2000XL to a 1000... looks like a downgrade to me:P
BTW why did u sell your MPC2000XL and get a MPC1000?

MPC 1k is obviously the better choice.

youll figure it out, all the capabilities are there, you are just doing something wrong.

I bought it for a few reasons. First off, i like the hard drive and Cf options. also, i like having the huge amount of memory since i don't track beats out unless someone wants them, or i think i should. I can load a ton of beats up, and just scroll threw them during listening sessions. Second, i travel around to different studios to work, either engineering or producing, and the 1000 is way smaller and lighter, so its easier to move around.

Anyways, i know its a setting im missing some where's on either the MP or the Triton Classic, i just cant find the right one and its killing me!

You have to find the error by replacing parts of your equipment. Connect the mpc and/or the triton to some other gear and check it.

does the JJ os have a midi input monitor / filter like the 2000xl has?

is the mpc set to record (or overdub) initially? in say grid edit, are the midi notes appearing at all?

maybe even try loading some samples and see if you can play them from the keyboard first

The mpc is set to record internally. ive swapped the cables around and get the same thing happening.

When i set the MPC to MIDI track 1 on the left, and set it to 1a on the right the pads will trigger the sound set in track 1 on the tritons sequencer, and if i change to 2a, it triggers the sound via the pads for track 2 on the triton.

When i have a program loaded on the MPC and its set to drum, the Triton key trigger the sounds from its own sound generator, and the sample loaded to the pad with the same midi note.

The MPC can not record any incoming midi data from the Triton, with local control off and on. with it off, the triton doesnt make a sound even when the MPC is in record or overdub.

No notes show up in grid edit, and i dont know if there is a midi input monitor where i could see the incoming midi data.

the Triton will show midi notes, record and playback when hooked up to Logic Pro, but not the MPC.

Anyone have any idea's? this is driving me insane. I want the Triton slaved to the MP, and to just use Logic as a Tape Machine, then add little bits once the beats tracked into Logic, and to Mix in. I dont want to have the MP and Triton Slaved to Logic, i want the groove of my MP!

So you can trigger the mpcs sounds but cant record the incoming notes?

i did a video real quick for you. the audio distorts when the bass is recorded but the basics are there. my camera is super sensitive to bass so deal with it. hope this helps you. midi out A(mpc) to midi in (triton) midi out (triton) to midi in 1(mpc)
