Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I haven't really done much timestretching before, I would let the sample dictate the BPM most of the time or adjust the pitch to fit. I looked up a tutorial on timestretching on the 500 and tried it. Worked fine, I renamed and assigned to a new pad like it was supposed to do. OK, great. Sample's just a bit off, still. So I go to stretch the original sample again, making slight modifications. I hit "Do it" and it stops flashing, but nothing's been done...no difference in the sample (it hasn't been stretched any more), no option to name and assign the edited sample this time or anytime thereafter. What am I doing wrong?

When I'm testing stretches to fit into a loop, I delete the stretch I didn't want first and then repeat the process placing the new adjusted stretch in the same button with the same name. That way you just hit play and see if its hitting where you want, if not delete and repeat.

Thanks for the reply, but can you elaborate? I'm a little confused. Like, if I have sample A on pad 1, stretch it and name it sample B on pad 2, but sample B isn't stretched right, I delete that from the MPC's memory and start over? Because that's what I tried to do. I'd delete sample B from pad 2, then try stretching sample A on pad 1 again, but when I hit stretch and set the BPM and everything, then hit "Do it", the do it light stops flashing and nothing happens, no option to rename, no new stretched sample, nothing.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you?

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it. I assigned pad 2 as blank, purged unused samples and it let me stretch sample A again.

I'm glad you got it figured because I'm getting confused now too. :)
