What should i get to start doing hip hop audio production

Im going away to school soon for audio production and business management and would like to know what i should get hardware and software wise before i leave. Thank you

what kind of hip hop do you want to make? old school 90s soundin joints or newer soundin joints? sampled beats or keybaord beats? if u have no experience i would start with software. more flexible.

Find out what software/ hardware your class will be working with and take it from there. If you could use the same software, it would help you to understand it better/ faster.

Verify that you will be using pro tools in class (you will be at some point, no doubt) and buy a book on it. That way you can mess around with it and be ahead of the class in no time. The pro tools "m-powered" stuff isnt too expensive, so....

or if, for some reason, pro tools is not on the syllabus, find out what is and start trolling youtube and all that to learn more.
