you've got "every incarnation of MPC since a 2000xl" and you're complaining about spending, what forty bucks, on the jjos?

lots of cats pinchin' pennies just to cop a 1/2k.

i just wish i didn't have to buy 'room for squares' to get neon. sort of a jip.

 John, you make me feel like I'm not in this by myself. I know I spit a line or two just to be on the hip side of things around here too. :D

The only thing I miss from the 5000 is the ability to lay multiple samples on one pad.

john - you can. in GPE (mode/pad 7) hit the WINDOW button over the sample assign parameter to layer 3 sounds under the same PAD (same AMP/FILTER/PITCH ADSR settings)

if you want more than 3, or if you want to use a variety of AMP/FILTER/PITCH ADSR settings, use SIMULT PAD to layer 2 different pads, ie up to 6 layers of multiple samples on 1 pad.

GPE only displays the top layer of each pad, perhaps encouraging the use of SIMULT instead of PAD LAYERS since SIMULT is a more powerful method of achieving an identical result

I'm thinking about getting a 4U rack space and finding two great preamps/compressors so that the drums always have a signature sound... It would be cool to have the MPC perched up on top of one or two mastering-quality units...
Overkill, maybe...

Great first post and it's good to have you on the forums!

I don't have 4 Rack U's of gear for it, but I have a few API pres and compressors I run my 1000 into. Sounds nice to me. If you're looking for gear I would suggest you check out the Distressors by Empirical labs for a big sound also the API 2500 is a great stereo compressor. I don't think it's overkill at all...

Been dreaming of getting a pair of SSL SuperAnalog Channels to run my 1K thru, to get that big board sound. Unfortunately my wife would rather we pay the mortgage... But as soon as I can scrape up enough dough I'm gonna get a JLM Baby Animal kit for that purpose.

Right now, the only things I have to run my 1k thru are a Stanton DJF-1 (predecessor of the Vermona Action Filter - stereo 4 pole LP/HP/BP/Notch filter), a blacklionaudio.com modded Bellari RP220 (surprisingly good after the mods, terribly awful without them), my trusty ASR-X (sonic gold! - I use it as a realtime stereo fx processor), and some plugins.

Welcome to the forum. It's great to see an amazing guitar player get into the MP. To me it makes sence that anyone interested in music would eventualy discover samplers. I use the 1k with the new pads. The reason I bought the 1k was due to the JJ OS. For me all of the important features from the 2500 have been added, so it just seems to make sence. I'm sure you'll see that any question you have will be answered by someone... Probably Nym.
I'm sure a lot of the people reading this thread would love to hear what you come up with. Good luck
