Im using jj os1 4.99 (mpc1000).

If i set the swing at 55% and save entire memory, then load up another track, and set the swing at 60%. Then save that and go back to the first song, it will say 60% even though This song was saved at 55%...

This is pretty annoying if you go back to an old track you made and want to add something new, and dont know what the original setting was..

Any way to get around this?

Thanks.

the swing setting is global, you must apply it to each sequence.

i think hes just saying that its annoying how the swing screen doesnt display the swing value thats applied to the current track

When you press do it the value shown ist the exact amount of swing in the quantization applied, whats the problem?

lets say you load a previous project - you dont want to change the swing cos you like it - and just you want to know what swing was applied to a track....

how about you want to make a new track with a little extra percussion - you want that percussion's swing to match that of the older drum tracks.... what you gonna do?

not a problem?

What do you mean? Is that english??

What Im saying is: Is there a way to know what you set the swing on, on a track you made.. say 1 year ago? Is there a way that that could be shown on the screen when you load up the track.... Like the way PT or Logic does when you load up a song...

Sorry dudes... cant think of a easier way to explain this....

i totally follow you dude, and as far as im aware there is not an option to display the 'applied swing' - it only shows the last swing setting applied.

really annoying, we shouldnt be expected to write down/remember every swing setting we ever made.

You don't have to remember what it was set to, just listen to what the notes are doing and you should get a pretty accurate setting for the what it was set to.

Now if we were talking about XL I would say the strength setting could make it a little harder to do but with MPC's in general you should be able to tell which way the notes are leaning.

I use quant. from time to time, if i want the swing to match the groove of the existing elements i don't even bother using it. Just play with quant off and nudge the notes.
But even if you want to use it, just record with quant off and try different swing settings afterward.

So you are saying when you listen to stuff you have done you really have no idea what the setting are just by listening to it?

The whole point of swing, shuffle etc is that it does specific things with the notes.
This is also the reason why some people totally refuse to use swing, they don't like where it forces the notes.

doesn't anybody keep a notebook or put useful/critical information like this in the project name/sequence any more? :)

thats the thing - i dont use swing that much - i generally like to record with quantze and time code off - then correct things in step edit as needed.

im just not that familiar with what all the different swing seeting sounds like - if you asked me what a 63 swing sounded like with a -2 shift ... i couldnt hum it to you. it would just be nice if that was memorised and displayed onscreen.

applied swing doesnt even seem to show up in step edit mode either (the visual one in os2) - or am i missing something?

anyways, i work around it by listening - it just takes longer - and yes - theres happy accidents along the way. I'd just like the choice between guesswork and a visual display.

edit: i suppose the short answer to your question is "pretty much no idea"

^ this is because a track may have multiple "swings" or no TC whatsoever, so there's no information to show
