Diggin a waste of cash

i got a pt-01 but i just aint interested in going out to shops and going thru dusty records i prefer to save time and money by finding shit to listen to and sample on-line but my primary purpose is gettin sample fodder.

hey ede i got a question for you that kind of relates to that - if i said "when i go to a record shop i can only pick from what the store owner/dealer/buyer thinks will sell" would you say that was true?

i dont download everything i find i still discriminate in the same way i would if i was out diggin im still checking the year the lable and the players on the record.

besides some albums you just know that anyone who is into making beats would appreciate like the les mccann layers record dam near every track has some nice open instuments, so thats the same type of stuff i woulda like to have found when out diggin but if i did find that calibre of record in the shops that gonna cost amounts i aint prepared to pay.

what dj e.d.e is saying that is like saying when u go to a record shop the records are already there so u relying on the shop owner to dig for u.

if u go to a shop there is a few thousand records u go thru em and find the ones u like, when i got to a blog site there are a few hundred records i go thru em and download the ones i like same thing just im doing it on-line.

in fact id say blog sites are better then a record store cos u go to a shop alot of that shit aint usable unless u go to a1 or some other shop that deals with records suitable for sampling, a blog site is like an on-line shop that deals with records that would be of special interest to peeps that sample.

so thats just what i want no time to **** with all the other random shit plus i find the records with alot of good samples have the music that i enjoy listening to aswell, so win win.

i still got a small stash of records but got no intention of making a past time or hobby out of record collecting but every so often if im out of town and i see a record shop i aint been to will check it and if i find something great but i aint putting time and moeny into it.

When you're crate-digging you have to know the sound that you're going for. I began digging in '93 and I remember hunting for a crazy guitar riff. The first place I raided was the '60s psych-rock albums and found 80% beat worthy material. A funky snare? I raided '70s jazz. Focus on what you need in a beat and raid the resource. This year alone, I spent $2,000 USD on vinyls and CDs and only a few of them suck, the rest are enslaved in my MPC.

Yeah, but Jpeg's point is just going to be that he can do the same exact thing and spend $0, or just the cost of an internet connection, which is what most of us obviously spend anyways.

as i said before if it's not you picking out what YOU want then it's someone else doing the diggin, i have helped many folks when they come to our shop , they ask what would you recommend something with drums a one shot a guitar riff etc. that's my music that i know, it's up to you to know what you want ....you have to stop look and listen to what your choosing, know the music know the artist. ask your folks what they use to listen to,and go from there...the point is to get music that will make your own style not someone Else's.....sure sometimes while your diggin you come across the same records that premo or some other big producer you like has, there was many records made of that type.

I've been at this before hiphop came mainstream in the 80's by listening to my folks records ones it come out i had all the tune they were makin rap records from. but I'm a dj so i also digg for music that has a dance beat to it something eclectic i dig for music i can play out first before i digg for samples , there's samples on every record...if you can't find one then you need to listen more.

i use to use the net a few yrs back to DL but i didn't feel right taken music like that ....it's just me ,I've been diggin before Internet plus there so much music out there that's not even on CD or mp3...that's the point to diggin is to find that music,
everything that you download form the net has been sampled or raped in some way

Well, last beat I made consisted of 2 records...2 45's...one for the drums...the other for the melody and bass. Got them both for a whopping 50 cents total. a quarter a piece, lol. I have the ability to listen to what I buy before I buy it which does make a big difference.

i dont see the point in finding a real woman and making love....i know these websites that have downloadable women and they look more pretty than the ones in real life.....ive even found a woman who had been chucked out of a car window....online women are cheaper and you can find more variety.....does it really matter if they are real?????..........


please make an effort....some peeps make music like its math homework which needs to be done as quickly and cheaply as possible......instead: put in the effort...have fun....reap the benefits.....

Les McCann is not the pinnacle of beat digging.

What the internet lacks and what you clearly lack is real personal human interaction. Record stores, flea markets, dealers garages, dj’s couches, roadtrips and clubs is where the music that I make was born.
