ok one last time guys scsi to usb!!!!!!!

I have read threw so many of the old posts to see the same question over and over.

scsi to usb?

will it work?

well over and over again the question was asked. So we all should be aware of the fact that this adapter will not connect your 2kxl to your comp or a external hard drive.

Here is the real question?

can we use this usb to scsi adapter to hook our external hd to the laptop/computer?
so we can transfer our samples to the hard drive. then plug the hd back up to the mpc and have a full external hard drive ready to use.

one last explanation:

I would disconnect the external hd from the mpc, and use the usb to scsi adapter to transfer data/samples from computer to the external scsi hard drive. then i would hope to reconnect the hard drive back to my mpc and it be full of my data/sample, and ready to load into my 2kxl...

A harddisk fornatted by your mpc is not readable by your pc, it won't recognize the disk's layout.

thanks for your patience on an exhausted topic. it took me a day and half to get this old scsi drive working.
its a big ass 5.75 drive. i was lost for sure. thankfully they had some unread manuals on line still.

so.. now? to get all my sample disks, and vinyl samples on this drive, is my only option to painstakingly load each zip/cd i have into the mp and then transfer to my scsi? can i use the auto load function to speed up this process?

and what makes us able to bounce the mcd cards from comp to mp? is it the midicase program that alows the comp and the mp to colab?

im thinking about getting a cf reader after i get all the data off my zip disks. but really do not use samples off the comp anyway. although i might want to build prg.'s with midicase.

a couple answers to those questions and your commit on the later would be appreciated.

unfortunately this will indeed be the way to go.

The removable media like zip disks and CF cards can be written and read by the mpc2kxl if they got formatted as a FAT file system on a computer. Both the MPC and the computer are thus able to read and write of such media. If however you formatted the media on your MPC then a PC can not read nor write to such media. You might ask yourself why can't I format a scsi harddisk as a FAT on my pc so it can be read and written by PC and MPC alike. The problem here is that an MPC only can read/write FAT filesystems of max 1GB size.

The midicase soft comes indeed very handy when you want to build programs on the computer for later use on the MPC.
As for the CF drive, I still consider it one of the best investments I ever made (a couple of years ago) for my MPC, much more reliable than zip drives. You can also use the CF reader to make backups from your treasured projects to your computer via a CF card transfer between MPC and PC.
