Newbie Trying To Update OS

My new MPC came with OS 1.01 and the Akai site indicates 1.02 should be downloaded and installed. I did download it and tried to install it using the manual, "after putting the OS on the CF card, hold Pads 2 & 3 while starting the MPC 5000." I did this but no update. My 5000 still says 1.01.

I know I am new so I am asking what I am doing wrong?

did u format the HD first?

Did you format the CF card?

erase the OS off the CF card.. Format the CF card. Then Format the HD. Turn off the system and hold down the erase button. Turn the system on while holding the erase button to initalize the system.

Then put the OS back on the CF card and now try to load the OS. After you update, reinitialize the system one more time...

Woops was I supposed to format the HD before I tried to update? I assumed I did not have to format my CF since I have already stored samples on it.

no. Format it!

I edited my post^^^^ Follow what I wrote.. let me knwo how it works... ill be right here...

you wont loose your samples on the HD when u format it, but any info on the CF card will be lost once u format the CF card. So back up samples on the cf card to the HD or PC...

lotta reasons.... I've been eyeing the miko. especially with that price drop recently. Im gonna hold out until after NAMM tho...

in the mean time, ill be using software...
