Insert rest when step programming grid/midi?

This is when programming using auto increment in grid edit/midi.

Can a rest with the specified step increment value (1/8, 1/16 etc.) be inserted?

The rotary dial increments very small values (much less than the step increment value) as far as i can see.

Shift-Step jumps to the next event (if there are any).

Right arrow would be ideal but that does no do anything.

But that's when in DRUM mode I guess.
In MIDI mode the increments are smaller, or can I select that anywhere?

Not possible inside the grid edit it seems.

it ain't really a step sequencer, more intended to capture live performance

There are quite a few step sequencer options like the 808-style programming in grid edit, step edit of course and then the almost finished step programming in the grid/midi.

All that's needed in that menu is making the right cursor arrow act as "insert rest" (increment one step) or something like that.

probably the pad i play most regardless what i'm doing is D16. That shit is always w/o sound. Cutting stuff is a must.

in step edit on the XL you could make it auto step increment according to the TC value, was pretty handy. holding down overdub and inserting steps from the main page was a dope feature too, is that even in os2? lemme go try.

Yes, but when working with external gear that plays over the whole range there's no such "pad" or key. And it will also create a lot of unneccesary data to send out over the midi cable.

What I mean is, since the grid/midi edit is almost fully functional it's such a pity there's no "insert rest". That's such a common thing to do.
