I'm Crossing over from the 2000xl forum

my big question is what is the big difference of the 3000/60 and the 2000xl, i've spent hours messing with both mostly the 2k, but what are the advatages of the 3000/60? thanks

aw cuz you selling out?......lol....nah but if you are really hung up on it just get you a 60 and keep your 2000xl.....the 2000xl actually does more than the 3000......but the name holds weight so ppl feel more comfortable with the 3000 becuz the 2000 is suppose to be the cheap version of that.....but i don't know

With the 3000 and 60 you get four midi outs. The machines also have a somewhat different sound than the 2000. The 60 has a thicker fuzzier sound, while the 3000 sounds punchy and clean. You have to hear them to judge. The pads also feel a little thicker on both machines. This could be a good thing or a bad thing.

In my opinion the 2000 or 2000xl is better for someone using loops. You get a lot more sample memory and waveform editing and effects option.

Most people I know who use the 3000 just sample drums and a short phrases/loops. They also have a Sh--load of midi racks in constant use. So I think they would be better for drum samplers and people with lots of midi gear.

I like the 4000 for sequencing though because it is more flexible. But it is a lil harder to make drum kits on it because of its complexity. When it comes to music equipment theres always tradeoffs.

Some equipment sound better, some have more functions, some are easy to use, some can do about anything but requires a user who can speak java.

I went thru MPC2000(can anyone say freeze ?) to MPC2000XL(very nice machine) then i found a MPC60(which is very rare over here in Sweden) for $700, said goodbye to the 2000XL after a month. This machine just keep on playing and never freeze like some of the others, just love it.

Also I notice on the 2000 forum people always ask how to do stuff that is so basic it boggles my mind that they don't know how to get to it, until I remember that you have to hit shift f2 and the up arrow to get to stuff on the 2000. The 60/3000 has all the buttons right there and shallow menus. Of course the 2000 has more to offer, but you pay for it in time spent digging through menus instead of crates.

to get around. In fact I think it has the most efficient user interface compared to all the other mpc's (except for step editing which is bad on all machines maybe not the 4000 though).

My partner who uses a 3000 is amazed on how fast I can get to functions without pressing much. I see him do stuff and it seems like he presses a few more buttons.

The shift number thing is really no problem at all and the open window button is fairly logical. In fact none of the functions on the 2000 is really "hidden".

I work with a 3000 a lot and the downsides to having a button for most dedicated functions is pressing a number in a submenu.

That saying I really don't see the buttons/feature too much of an issue. It might even be a good thing (for the 2000).

And the 2000 don't freeze up that much to complain about. It is usually an non updated os or ram problem that distracts most people which can easily be fixed.

Working on the 60 made using a 2000XL to easy.

Just bought a 60ii. I don't know anything about any other MPC. Never owned one, only witnessed the marvel of the 2000xl a couple of times. I was behind the mic then. But I know that all the music I grew up on and love to hear over and over and over, are all made on the 60, and the SP1200, and 3k. So I started from the Bottom ofthe list.
Dumped some money into a MPC 60ii 3.10 SCSI Version. I have madegood progress, Mainly just loops and breaks.
I have been wanting one for years, now. I mean long years. Try maybe 10. Hell yeah. Everytime I got the money, something happened. This time I got ahold of some cash - Bad thing. Bought it, didn't care what I was going to pay either. It is in Tip top shape. Works like a champ. I'm a very tedious cat, High standards and all, So I'm like cleaning off the dust and keeping the house cool. I've been spinning and rhyming for years though, The MPC was always the Hub I needed.
There is my life story about Hip-Hop. Love it so much, I have to keep it going. For my kids at least to say, Yo - Dad was right, The Older Stuff is waaay better than this garbage, Thanks Dad. I have a Three year old.
Got HIm cuttin' records wit' me everyday. It's cool, NOw I'm working on a soundtrack for him. The soundrack of his life.

I think my next purchase may e a Sp1200 or a 3k, when I get there I'll let you cats know. That may be Ten more years. Na. I got the ball movin' for the crew with this buy. We are already nice with it on the mic. Justt got tired of begging for beats, you know. making my own sound, and will be doing so for many years to come.

I feel that. I'm twenty, and I wanted a drum machine so bad when I was a kid. When I was thirteen I got my first mixer, it was the simplist little vestax you could buy. I could never afford to cop some turntables, I had to use an old singlular motor driven one, and tapes. I had a ball, but when we moved house, my mother sold it without consulting me, along with my bike. I was mad for a long time about that. I was really into scratching although I wasn't all so good. A year later I began beatboxing, my mate got me right into it. Taught me structure and timing. One day when we were at his crib, we were in his garage and there was this beat machine, (I remember it to be a techinics or something, but since then I found out that that model never existed), I remember seeing the pads, and just being blown away, with its floppy disk drive and all. I was like, man... what is that. I used to always bring it up, and he told me he used it heaps and had fun sampling with it but I never saw that part of the process. It was just a toy. Anywho I always asked him if he still had it, and he said he couldn't find it, it was in a box in the garage somewhere, it was his brothers, him being the first baby of the family was encouraged to be something too much perhaps. He couldn't sell it to me, because it wasn't his, and then he couldn't find it. I only remember seeing it once. I've loved the sound of hip hop since I was really young and dysfunctional. I always wanted to make music, even if I wasn't so gifted, you know, its such a vessel and a product of the urban milieu. I've written raps since I was about thirteen, but I've come to realise how much you can't say with words. Sooner or later I started seeing these magical machines, with rubber pads, I saw Numark using one, read interviews about how they raved about them, and RJD2, saying that its all they needed. And records, don't get me started. Man... theres just so much magic there, like how you can warp history in the palm of your hand. Amazing. Anywho, I finally borrowed enough money to buy myself one. I make films, I'm at art school, I paint, draw, I use any medium I can get my hands on, I simply love to create. And sampling, damn, you can't go past it, it's everywhere. Its the collage of the 21st century. So there I was, after weeks of endless hours researching the best machine to buy, what would alocate me with the maximum freedom for the most hands on technology, the XL came into sight. I bought one last November, its been hell and heaven trying to sus it out, living in this small country where there are very few users. It's a delight to be able to possess media like this, it provides me with the blank canvas for the act of manipulating sound I never quite imagined.

I don't read much... but I like to read stories like the ones in this thread. I got a XL, not being my first MPC, since I've owned the regular 2000. Haven't done too much with the 2000 since I couldn't sample yet, not having the right things I needed. Now I got the XL real recently, going to put a card reader in it and all that. I mean, even looking at it I get all geeky and happy. I know one day I'll be picking up a 60 or a 3000, and still keep the XL. My story isn't as good as anyone's, infact, its like a boring documentary of me. I'm going to click submit anyway. lol.

i was gonna start with the 60 but got the 2000xl i kinda regret it a little just because the original 60 is beutiful and the sound is sick, but someday im gonna try to get one.
