I have heard alot about the ASR10 as well, never seen one though. Must be a pretty sick keyboard.

At the time it was made, to me and many many others, it WAS the God of sampling keyboards/workstations. And rightfully so, the legend is still alive in many peoples minds and thoughts. It's old but it's still a strong competitor in the ring.

I like chopping with numbers. If you know your math right, you can chop samples precisely the same size to keep in timing with the sequence without adjusting the BPM. Just need your ears and a calculator.

Why you dugged it up if its 2yrs old! I just came to put my 2cents in, you could've passed it by. Obviously you never manually chopped beats before and you call yourself an expert!?

The expert tag on the names means that that member has the required posts to have that tag, that's it.
Nothing more. Doesn't directly indicate the members knowledge of anything, lol.

Like mine, I didn't put it there either.. It wasn't there one day and the next it was. Calm down Chief.

Let me explain. When I did have a 500 I would chop up samples in the 2500 and later when I was away from my 2500 I would load them into the 500. Makes plenty of sense to me. I know you guys weren't thinking I would load them into the 500 just to work in the 500 while having a perfectly good 2500 in the same room, that would be stupid. :D

I didn't dugg it up so don't attack me

And yess, I know how to chop manually, but I don't need a calculator to tell me where should be the start and end point of a sample.
I use my ears

But guess I'm not an expert, so that must be wrong way to work

A calculator doesn't tell you the start and end points, it's used after you chopped and truncated your main sample leaving you with a number to play with in a song. Let's say you truncated a loop to 3260. With that number you can multiply or divide by 2, 4, 8 or 16 so other samples can be chopped quickly. Or if you wanna get freaky multiply or divide by 3, 6, or 12. Hey man, its a MPC 500, you're gonna have to work with numbers. And digging is 2nd nature in me.

I never have to count past 6 and my chops never overlap unless I want them to.

I started with a 500 and I'm now mastering the s900, so I'm used to it as well. Sometimes I even prefer to chop in numbers over chopping waves.

I can see the reason why a calculator can be useful, but it's a kinda weird to me. Calculating something that's part of a creative process.
Like I said, I chop by ear.

But u should do what works for u man. But don't get too caught up with doing math. That was actually my statement I tryed to make on a grumpy day

Its all good Menco, the math method is just my plan B when beats get out of hand. I also have a background in djing so using my ears is essential. Let's dead this thread and rock the box. Peace.
