Deleting Samples problem

Ok guys,

Trying to free up some memory - i eventually will do the upgrade but right now i'm just really trying to learn this machine.

I had a drum program loaded up with 20 samples - i then loaded a break to chop. The break was stereo. This first thing I did was trim the beginning and end, tried to extract that, and I got the "INSUFFICIENT MEMORY" message.

So I am trying to delete my drum program which is "OBERHEIM DMX". I connected the USB, went to LOAD > USB, placed it into my trash, emptied trash....the program and its samples are still in my MPC memory. I went to SAVE mode - highlighted the "OBERHEIM DMX" folder, then hit delete. Again, program and samples are still there. How the hell do I get rid of the samples to free up some memory?

You can´t access the mpc´s ram via usb. You can delete samples from the ram from the sample list, but that´s all in the manual. Do yourself a favor and read it.

I did that. Samples are still there. Turning the machine on and off is a solution - but that can't be the only one can it? Surely you shouldn't have to turn the machine on/off just to free up some space....

Do you have the upgraded Ram?

no i don't. i realize that is the best way to go, but it's kind of at the bottom of the list right now. I'm really just working my way through the tutorial, and through jj os, getting my head around everything....working my way up to a point where i have some workflow established and I can just - create. but still, there's got to be a "right" way of deleting samples, apart from turning the machine on/off.

The only thing I can tell you is to go to the TRIM mode and on the last tab there should be a delete tab. You can Delete each sample in there seperatly or delete them all at once.

OR

In the program mode you can "PURGE" which will get rid of any samples that arn't being used in the program ( I believe ). Hope that helps a little.

This should be one of the first on the list, the possibilty's are endless with the Upgraded RAM. You go from less than a minute of sampling time to at least 12min.
If you got upgraded there would be no "INSUFFICIENT MEMORY" pop up period.

When you go to "save" you are accessing your cf card or your hard drive, ram is the 16 (or 128when maxed out) mb memory with the loaded samples you can play.
To repeat it: You cant access your ram via usb so you cant delete samples from the ram when in the save menu.

That´s pretty basic stuff though, do your homework and read that goddamn manual.

alright man, i understand. i read through the manual, read through the tutorial - i cannot see anywhere where it tells me how to delete sounds from RAM. Maybe i'm a **** idiot. probably. Would anyone like to tell me how i can do this? I'm sorry for newb questions, i'm just frustrated.

edit: what I found from the manual: "The data loaded in the RAM will be deleted when you turn off the MPC1000"

Thanks, I intend to do it ASAP now. I can see it important it is, and not too expensive either.

look up PURGE in the manual

CF and RAM are independent

you don't need to be doing anything with USB to clear up memory

okay got it. program > hightlight program name > WINDOW > delete.

lots of cats are cranky as f**k on this forum. At least that rich_biatch dude is gone....

Peeps feel for you, but a lot of them learned by reading the manual and/or searching the forum extensively, so they have little patience for questions they deem easy to research and solve. Of course, it only seems easy when you know how to do it already.

A good amount of the time someone on here will know how to help you and will take the time to do so, with or without a few words of chastisement for not figuring it out yourself. Just seems to be the way it goes.

With the complexity of the JJ OS, the MPC 1000 is a much tougher beast to master than the older machines. I've had my 1000 for maybe 2 months and still feel like I can barely get around inside it (something of an exaggeration). By the time I'd had my 2000xl for this long I was pretty much comfortable with every parameter in every mode. It was a good feeling and I'm looking forward to having it again with the 1000, if possible. Having 3 manuals to learn at once doesn't make it any easier, not to mention that the most relevant one is not written by a native speaker of English. If I had the patience to read the JJ manual I know I'd be much better off. Old age is a ****. I likes me some plain English when in the learning process.

In the future I will try to answer any questions I can, short of how to save/load a program, &c.

word up trunk, yeah this little thing was pretty fundamental but still i just couldn't find it. I looked through the manual (for real!) and through my tutorial. I learned another thing - download the .pdf manual, b/c you can search for words (i.e. PURGE) and makes life a lot easier.

I'm not even on JJOS1 yet (still waiting for my password, bought one a few days ago and haven't heard back), even though I do use it....so I got a long way to go, but i've also come a long way in just two months, and i'm pretty much a newb in the production department. I learn a lot from this forum, so i have much gratitude to you grumpy sons a bitches

i also learn a lot from the search forum and i'll do my best to find my answers there.

could this be a case of needing to delete the default autoload program?

Also, when you delete files from a loaded projetc (ram) don't forget to also delete those same files from the compact flash or they'll just load up again next time
