there are pros and cons of each. the 303 is way too slow but sounds better, pads are better, looks cooler. the 404 is waay faster, uglier, shittier pads, but more fx and features (mic, batteries, etc). so its kind of a trade off

your not talking about a TB-303 by chance are you? I am guessing your refering to an mc-303 or something else. if your talking about the old skool 404 and or 303 propz for having them. sorry it got stolen

I guess most people seem to like the "sound" of the 303 over the 404. I think the right person would be able to get some grime out of the 404, though. I know it can be done.

303 doesn't sound that different to make a diff. really, I've had both for over a year and don't miss the 303 at all..most people fighting for that really, subconsciously just want it for the appeal..looks and the people who use them *ehem Madlib

for instance, Doom on the newest Wax Poetics holding a 303 on the back cover and in the article he says he uses the 404 and the MPC1000...why not rock the 404? because that shit doesn't look as cool or what? I dunno, they are both dope and both sound like what you put into them imo, run either through a great preamp or dump it to tape and you got all you need

not directed at anyone specifically, more general I suppose, and if the 404 does have a filter on it that sucks!

one thing about the 404 is the noise it makes from the lighted pads is audible

after using the 404 and 303 as my main tool since i started, i can definitely account for everything keepitcherry said.

Although, im mainly using the 404 at the moment, as im more comfortable with the speed of it. and i got it hooked up to a midi controller to make up for those brick pads. and as for the sound of it, it doesnt do that slightly buttery thing that the 303 does. but its pretty transparent none the less and sounds as good as whats put in.

That ASR X also has pads that are audible. it can get annoying after a while.

moved out of my old place so i had to setup my lab again. this time i tried to streamline it to gear i actually use and trimmed the fat. seems like an optimal setup now. don't think i need anything else really, but i do want an asr-10 rack still.
