MPC 3000 compared to 2000XL?

I have a 60, so I don't use multiple programs, or even know if it is possible.

I slave two rack samplers to my 60 and use 1 program at a time. Each program has about 16 kicks, snares, hihats, the rest are assorted samples, bass and such. I have other synths I use as well, as sequenced from the 60.

I love it, if I only had the 60 then I would probably do a program per songor per couple of songs to save space, but I tend to make anywhere from 10 to 60 sequences with each program, with about 40% making it to full production and recording. Sometimes I just **** around to try stuff.

Well that means that you have 6 buttons that change their function depending on what part of the system you are on. The MPC3000 has them also so I am not sure how you can slag on it.

As far as the Open window, it allows you to instantly access parameters that would either be more difficult or impossible to access. Many of the features that have been added to the MPC2k series were added through the Open Window. For example, if I wanted to rename a program, I simply hit Open Window from any screen that has a program name on it and viola, I can rename or change other parameters. On the MPC3000, you have to Select PGM, 1, rename and then I have to navigate back to where I was. 4+ keys versus 1 open window. That is actually less to wade thru on the MPC2k.

Sorry, but there is no way you are going to convince me that it easier to navigate on an MPC3000 than the MPC2000. I can cite many more examples and this is just another urban legend (much like the MPC3000 `sound`). I am not sure why I am even arguing this with elm. since he does not even own an MPC3000.

I don't want to convince anyone. I learned on the mpc2000 and for 3 yrs I spent mastering that. I moved through all the menus with no problem. When I got my mpc60 I didn't use it right away because being used to the 2000's movement, it slowed me down. Once I got the hang of it(its really just a diff way of thinking) I was good. When I got my mpc3000, it took me awhile again because of the button layout although it was easier comin from the 60. It really just depends on what you learn on. Now using the 3000 for so long I move through it in my sleep. The 2000 did have alot of features that I miss and did make working easier in some areas.

However I did do side by side comparisons with the 60, 2000, 2000xl, and the 3000 and they is...i mean IZ a difference in sound(esp. in the drum dept.......sorry mpc3000

Yup, I don't own a 3000 or a 2000, but I've used them a lot and can help people navigate while laying on a couch (just did that like 3 weeks ago for 2000 owner. I do own a 60 with the upgraded OS, which is similar to the 3000 OS and interface.

My point abput open window is you have to click to the field you need and then hit open window, and their is no indication what is in there or if there is even an open window. I don't think you are counting the button pushes of the cursoring to the field itself.

But I think once you know either machine it is really quick, but there is more to know on the 2000 because of more features, perhaps that's what makes it somewhat unelegant to me.

yeah Im sellin my MPC60 upgraded righ tnow. I like the 3000 thus far...except for the 1 program thing, dont matter 2 much its MIDI'ed up to a (Akai) Z4. The Z4 is ill. its the same engine thats in the 4000 only better in a sense of its programs and multis and other lil features.. editing and interfacees one computer.

right now im usin the old 3.08 OS tryin to get my hands on the 3.11 but havent yet. tried dwnloadin it but dont work on floppy so.. ima have 2 kick out for the chips.

Any1 here doin somethin else to stcks drums and samples on 1 program?
