Vinyless

I know a lot of you all are strictly vinyl samplers, but what is your take on if a track you want to sample has no vinyl print? Would you just sampling off the CD?...This is just for conversation guys, and slightly advice.

don't let what you read in some article along the lines of "I only sample from records" by a producer you look up to inhibit your creativity.

I would like to only/mostly sample from vinyls despite what people on here say, because thats what Pete Rock does, . I just wanted to see how some people who only sample vinyls would handle this situation.

a lot of music that was pressed on vinyl never got a cd release - which is one of the main reasons people buy vinyl. if its only released on cd and you want to sample it - what other choice do you have?

if the source sounds clean, sample it.
if not, move on.
if you hear possible potential , who cares what the source is.

but you shouldn't let the fact that its not on vinyl stop u from sampling it.

I'll sample from any source i could..but right now all i have is the tt hooked up to the mpc. But every once in a while my friend gives me a heads up from some artist who has tight shit to sample so i download some tracks by that artist and if i like it, i'll chop up the mp3's through my daw and put them on the cf card then load them up to some pads along with some drums and..you know what happens from there.

Do anything you like.

well if theres no vinyl then it's too new type of music for me,i prolly wouldnt sample from it.but not saying i wouldnt buy it, i just wont sample it if it's new music. well then again it depends on what it is, as i think about it theres some really nice drums on some alternative rock songs so then again IF I CAN'T FIND IT ON VINYL then maybe something like that i will.
but theres no limit to what to sample.
i take stuff off the tv,dvd,vhs,tapes what ever,but i like that classic warm sound, i like snap crackle pop in my music.

I prefer that over anything. Or when I really want to sample it and I can't find it on vinyl, then I'll use cd's as my last resort. But no mp3 or youtube

Go for it. I got some bits on cd that are extremely hard to get on vinyl (funk 45s that kind of thing) and some versions of breaks I already own, but hey, they're cleaner!

(although sometimes a dirty scuffed-up kick is just what you need . . .)
