First of all that was me trying to get more people in on this...I figured people would want to "sit on their heat", so I told them it wasn't necessary to send in their best shit. Second, I called them half-assed beats because I made them just for this project and didn't spend a whole lot of time on them - for the sole reason being that the "heat I'm sitting on" (and the wack shit I'm sitting on) are 3-4 minute beats with intros, outros, chorus breaks, etc... the ones I made for this are formatted like beattpae beats. Third, I do sample, I don't steal - I play at least 6 instruments, I know what's up, I use sounds from records to make new songs, I don't loop up a record(unless I feel that's the best way to sample that sample). Fourth, thanks for getting in on this, email me whenever you want (it's a few posts up).

Alright, check it out - I've thought about it and I want to get this done (unless it means putting out something even remotely wack). I have a few beats that I made before I proposed this idea that I think could work for this, bumping my beat total up to 6 for this project. Also, since I realized yesterday that I smoke so much weed that I don't even get high anymore, I'm taking a smoking break until 420 (may not sound like a long time, but I haven't smoked since last night and that's probably the longest I've gone in close to a year). This means that I'll be able to work on music more, and be more concentrated - hopefully it will pay off. We don't have to get this done by 420, it would be nice, but I'd rather do it proper.

I didn't get enough interest to complete it.

If someone else wants to try, I'll submit material, but I've resigned my position.

I just noticed this thread. I think a project with just 500 users might be a little hard to pull off. Some people would really end up pulling more weight than others.

Even the forum mixtape was open to the whole forums, and there were certain individuals that were over-represented just cause they had a bulk of material they were prepared to submit compared to everyone else.

You guys can still do this. There really is no need to rush. It just looks like there is going to be more time needed for people to submit material, or maybe just the few really gung ho members could speed a long and fill the project up with just their work and leave the rest of the 500 users in the dust so to speak.

I'd rather just do my own thing

No, but for real, if someone else wants to be in charge I'll submit some material.

I believe this beat cd can get done. Instead of making quick beats, I think every artist here should submit a masterpiece using the 500 to its limits. This way when heads listen to the cd they'll be like ''yo that's the 500?'' We gotta represent this machine lovely, and making another Special Herbs Box-Set cd is not gonna cut it. Let's rebuild this thread with new thoughts and try again.

I'm down, like I said.
If people were unwilling to do it the first time, when I suggested quick beats, I'm not sure asking them to do masterpieces is a way to get more interest, but it would lead to a better tape, so I'm all for it.

I've gotten a lot better since I originally made this thread, I've got plenty of stuff to add, someone just get the ball rolling.

New thread?

Yeah masterpieces, because a cd can only hold 80min and theres many of us. One masterpiece submitted by each artist, representing themselves and how they rock the MPC500. And rules need to be made to keep things simple, like if samples from copyrighted works can be used or not. We have to concentrate on what we wanna make real before we open a new thread. We can call it the MasterPieceConvention500 cd. Just a thought.

^ I'm all for the idea of submitting some of our better works, but I don't want to call anything that I do at the age of 20 "my masterpiece".

- We won't get enough people interested to fill 80 minutes if there is a one track per member limit. You see all of the posts I got from this old thread? I got like 4-6 songs in my mailbox when it was all said and done.

- **** clearing samples, this thing isn't going to have a barcode or pricetag on it - no profits means I don't care if I sampled something.

Maybe to add incentive to producers to add to this project, to get more listeners and to make better quality music: We could gather a collection of 500 beats and get some tight rappers on it AND THEN release it. Like keep it under wraps until vocals are added?
Maybe we could collaborate with an MC forum to supply or vocals? Do those exist? Are there any good ones?

You want to send me a sample of something? I can send you guys ideas of what I want to do too. Just PM me and we'll get this up and running if we get enough interest.

If we get a little interest out of this thread + a little interest out of the "new thread" we'll make on this topic, then we're going somewhere with this.

I'm down to submit a beat for this. I can do the 500 movie poster thing in photoshop I THINK. It shouldnt be too hard just gimme some time. Maybe an email or myspace would help get all the beats together and things organized. I can probly make this work if no-one else does. Any takers?
