I noticed how Beatnuts covered up a record they were sampling into the MPC2000 so you can't see it.
I saw that too. No one really shares good technique or quality tips but you always hear how much time they put in the studio and that's the real ingredient!
No one SHOULD share anything about their "technique" or their equipment or whatever. THAT'S ALL IRRELEVANT. Too many cats---especially here---want it all for NOTHING, and personally, it makes me sick. Everyone wants a "tip" for every got damn thing they're doing cuz they're too scared and impatient to sit the hell down and get to WORK.
The magazine should be a model of where these CAREERS started, where they went, the decisions they made, the studio experiences they had and what they LEARNED about collaboration, album-making, dealing with labels, scoping out artists, working with soloists, groups, and studio musicians. All of these topics are far more relevant to our overall growth and dedication to this craft NOT FINDING OUT WHERE TIMBALAND GETS HIS DRUMS or how Premier syncs his 950 to his MPC!!! Get to WORK you all you lazy bums! You think Eddie F gave Pete Rock his record collection? Gave him his SP-1200? Preemo STOLE his first set of tables! That's hunger, that's drive. Begging for "tips" is like a whiny, spoiled kid begging for dessert cuz he don't like his vegetables.
On that tip, the magazine is a good start. Yeah, Dre dropped some jewels in there, but I think Nottz did even moreso conveying his experiences coming up in the business. Don't get too lazy to think and get your feet wet y'all...believe me, Preemo, Dre, Timbo and them will NOT walk you to the water's edge, YOU will.
