Akai OS or go right o JJos

in a bit i will be buying the mpc1000. and i was wondering should i immediately get the JJos or stick with the akai os for a bit, and also does the JJos manual explain everything that the machine can do or do i still need to refer with the akai manual for some things

Akai OS if you plan on using the manual heavily. JJOS if you have a pretty good idea about how sampling works and don't mind decoding some of the features listed on the site. There are a few decent sources of info for JJOS (check the stickies).

Personally, I went pretty much straight for OS v1, and updated to OS v2 as soon as they were available. You can probably go for OS v1 and not miss *too* many OS v2 features if you're put off by dropping $100 right off. Otherwise, totally worth it in my mind.

If (or once) you get your head around the MPC workflow, it's pretty clear how streamlined JJOS makes a very decent workflow much better.

EDIT: Oh, there is a major file system bug with the older Akai OS versions, if you plan on sticking with the Akai OS at least update to the latest firmware revision. Otherwise you risk major data loss.

Go straight to the JJOS, so many more capabilities. Just say you went with the akai OS after learning that in a month or so you will be noticing features on the JJ that you want and will upgrade anyway so you may as well save time and just jump straight on the JJOS. There is a manual for that also. But just pressing buttons and learning how to do things by yourself is always fun then just refer to the manual if you get stuck or something doesn't seem right.
