Good move.
I was actually looking forward to the 5000, and then emptied several clips on it when I seen the specs/parts list.
That sh!tbox is no flagship, given Akai's legacy.
99% likely Akai will never top the 4k.
Roland might.
Stay tuned.

By getting the 4000 I meant , the more you get some workflow going in it, you will be able to appreciate what it can give your creative process

The biggest problem the MV line has is Roland doesn't seem to want to improve the sequencer.
The Sequencer on the MV has functions and features that the 4k lacks, but they need to associate them or make them translate to the rest of the world better.
They have shuffle but for some reason it's not even like the old Roland shuffle.

They really need to add a sequencer mode with settings and adjustment that allow you to quickly use it like other sequencers.
This is not another MV sequencer is f*cked post it's more of a make better use of the power of the MV.

The two things I really dislike about my MV have to be
1. Sometimes the sequencer requires too much tweaking or experimenting to get the feel I am after
2. The mixer should be based on sequencer tracks instead of Audio tracks and the Patches, or at least more configurable based on the Song or Pattern.

So if they had a sequencer that has a more direct feature set I would be really happy.
Not to say get rid of the current mode but it needs a more direct mode or more control to customize the setting.

If the mixer worked of sequencer traks instead of Audio and Patches then the concept of mixing would be far more useful for people mixing on the MV or sending the tarcks to your DAW.

I sold my 4k when I got my MV, then moved up to the 8800.
I am still not unhappy with my MV but strangely enough have purchased a 500, 1k that I added OS2, another 4k and of course the 5k.
The 5k still doesn't cut it so it just hangs out for now ( maybe Akai ), the 4k would be the MPC to use but I'm still finding JJ OS2 to have a very nice workflow and can't wait to try XL.
The 500 is sofa fun and you get some good ideas watching tv.

The MV is still the best for overall for song construction but I still find it easy to grab a MPC to sequence certain feels rather than tweak around the MV sequencer.

The 4k is a deep machine so the fact that it's end life is acceptable, the 5k being a new and current flagship is still hard to swallow.
Who would have thought the 4k would get replaced by a Fusion with pads?

I doubt you will regret moving to the 4k anytime soon.

That is an understatement. The timing is not that great and the audio tracks are useless if they keep going out of sync. Also..only 16 parts to add keygroup instruments to? You should be able to add a different keygroup instrument on each track. Why add so many MIDI tracks but can't assign more than 16 instruments. They took this same limited sequencer and put it in the Fantom G.

Anyway....Namm is just around the corner. There will probably be an OS update for my Fantom G, a new MV-9000, a picture of the Boom Chick 2000....and Akai will announce that they will no longer release any new MPCs. Instead, they will release different versions of their MPC line (like Jordans). You will get an MPC 60 with the OS of the MPC 2000XL....MPC 3000 with the OS of the MPC 2500 with a VGA option.

LOL!! Thats hilarious. It would kinda be cool though. To keep it going they would have to release like 80 different colors for each model i.e. air force one's!

Hahaha, funny stuff. Don't expect to ever see any Akai OSes before the 1k, thats when Nukai stepped in. I believe the features on all the Nukai MPCs are great improvement over the 2/3000s, but the 4k was one of a kind and will never be seen again (unless they sell it to a 3rd party or release the source). Sadly, the 4k just doesn't fit in with typical MPC users. Us 4k lovers are a dying breed.

Right you are unless someone does something innovative with it and everyone jumps on the bandwagon again.

For sound designing sounds 4k is top notch.

I would like to see this guy try to stay with an MPC; really learn it. Then let us know how you like it. If you had a 1000, and a 5000 and didn't like them. You may not like the 4000 because you can't convert all of your multi's, programs, samples, sequence. You may want to start fresh with all your samples, programs and sequence. It will give you time to learn the unit.
I never had any of the new stuff. But, wouldn't want to see you get rid of the beast(4000).

There are two manuals, I believe. When I first got my 4000, I download just the reference manual which didn't explain some things. But, the users manual does.

Why is it so important to "convert" 1000 sequences to the 4000. Just setup the 4K & record the sequence in real-time...

Ntuition wrote:Yes I know, im a sucker for buying the 5000! I payed $2500 for that ish and could only sell it for $1750 :( But I got a like new 4k for $1600. It is different but Im a quick learner. Previously had a 1k and today I tried to transfer all my old programs and sequences from the 1k and 5k to the 4k. I was heartbroken to find out that it doesn't recognize anything :(. I saw in some previous posts that they were going to fix this in an update. Is this update out? I think I have the current version, 1.7 I think. Holla!

i might be there with you i might go back to my 4k if they don't make serious update soon said that i'll wait to see what roland is cooking also.

Ok, maybe I'm goin nuts here, but I believe Numark made the new MPC line?

I swear I saw this somewhere in behind the scenes business or investment stuff (Part of my full time)

That and I do a lot of parts sourcing, and DIY audio gear builds and mods, so I may have stumbled upon this doing that..... Or I'm mistaken.

???????? This would explaine the insanely drastic changes to the MPC's?

I'm a 2000XL and 4000 Sucker.... Always will be...... Love em. Played with a 2500 and really wasn't impressed. Have to admit, never touched a 5000.
