2500 or 5000: Which one?

So I asked my wife for a 2500 for Christmas. Whenever she get's something I ask for, she likes to go above and beyond and get the best of the best within reason and I think Guitar Center may have swindled her into buying a 5000 instead. I told her that I don't want that shyt and if she got it to take it back, because I just wanted the 2500. She said "but the 5000 is better. Why wouldn't you want it?" That makes me think she got that instead of the 2500. What would you guys do, keep the 5K or make sure she returns it for the 2.5K?

more compatitable then thee 1k, but not all headaches of thee 5000.... ( jus my thought )

Oh, and definitely getting the 2500. I just want to see what everyone else would have done. I don't want all the shyt the 5000 comes with. Too much chit!

A 2500 with JJOS2 will give you instrument programs (i.e. keygroup programs) like an mpc 4000 has.

I know a mighty proud mpc 5000 owner will come in here and say "if you want keygroups get a rack." Blah. I know my way around a rack. I have owned S series samplers for years. I love racks but it is nice to have that ability all within ONE unit.

This is true. Why didn't Akai recruit JJ for their 5000 OS?

It would have been the ultimate killer machine then, and Akai would unconquerable be back as no. 1!

What up all...Couple questions regarding these two MPC's. How different is the direct recording of the 5000 from the 2500. Is the 5000 as user friendly as the 2500 in direct recording. Also is the 8 track recording easy to sync with the sequencer perfectly, while using the direct record.

Thanks to any users familiar with both these units who help answer the above.

I would say there is no one that supported the MPC 2500 as much as I have around these forums so I know exactly what it offers. The 2500 doesn't come close to the MPC 5000. The 5000 expands on nearly every function that the 2500 has and adds significantly much more in new functions. OS2 adds even more. I can't think of one good reason to go back to using an MPC 2500 after using the 5000.
