Iterative Quantise in OS2 XL - nice!

I don't think anybody has mentioned this yet, but I just noticed in this video (11 seconds in) that JJ has implemented Iterative Quantize, meaning that you can select the strength of quantizing (or Timing Correct in MPC parlance). So if you record a midi piece from your keyboard, but find the playing a bit sloppy you can tighten it up without losing the human groove. The Quantizing is moved towards the exact beat by the percentage specified. Awesome

And at 1:50 he seems to have midi devices. So you can specify that your Microkorg is always on midi channel 12, and just select the Microkorg as your output device.

That'll make recording a single beat to separate pads oh so much nicer. Plus may open up a *ton* of functionality playing live.

Umm... wow! This video really impressed me, most of the screens now look drastically different from the akai OS. JJ is intense!

Anyone else like the computer sounding bleeping noises in the background? (Makes the secret illegal OS seem even more mysterious, haha...)

One question: It seems like I can change the track while "recording" a sequence in JJ OS 4.99. Are you people referring to sequencing in the grid mode or something?

Yeah and its nice that he added NORMALIZE LEVEL function which was suggested by me last month. I missed it from BOSS SP-505 which allowed you to boost loud samples even louder and make them distort a bit.

It's not a new feature as such, just something that was dropped in OS2. You can do it in Akai OS too. I'm very happy to see it return!

you know what would be an awesome addition to that bar loop feature?

auto-punch

being able to set an 8 bar sequence to loop only bars 6 through 8 and then set an autopunch at bar 7 would be amazing.

that way you could have the 3 bars looping, but only the bar in the middle (bar 7) would be set to record, so you could have the first and last bar as reference points to your playing, but auto-punch in and correct a mistake in the middle bar

I think essential functions like record and overdub should be kept simple and uncluttered. Because its not a destructive medium like tape, auto punch in just isn't needed. Put your new stuff on a new track so it won't affect the old. You can always hit undo and try again or go in and trim out any extra stuff in step edit. If it really bugs you setup a footswitch to punch in and out.
