Let me get your 60II. I guess I'm the only who likes the looks of it?

So I'm holding on to the MKII, it now has full memory 3.1 os and scsi.

I got a MKI with half the mem and 3.1 os but no scsi, I'll be sticking it up on ebay in the new year I guess. Must be worth £400 ?

Cheers for advice

tha catch is that tha voice card in tha MKI is not manufactured anymore so ta copp a replacement chip ya gotta buy a whole nother 60... Tha MKII's voice card is still made, less likely ta go out, and if it does its much easier ta replace...

I'm not 100% clear on what your saying.
Is it only the voice chips that die on both machines or do the voice cards develop other faults also ?
Do you mean that the chips for the MKII are still made or the whole voice card ?
Aren't the voice chips the same in both machines ?

thats exactly what you should NOT do!
i mean for reals...? your clownin rite?
your worried about cosmetics over future functionality...?
move tha scisi port to your MKII and you'll be much better off...
that MkI voice card failure ish tha truth and tha tuth is brutal...
especially when you turn on your MP one day and all your samples sound jacked...
you'll wish you had another 60 or 60MkII or even better a 3K!
for serious be serious.

He was refering to the 60 mk1 having a voice card that will eventually go out!

When he said "voice card" I presume he was talking about the "Voice PCB".
The MPC60 MK 1 voice card has several components on it.
I doubt all the components on the card die at the same time and was wundering which particular components were most likely to fail.
He starts of talking about cards, then mentions chips and goes back to talking about cards.
I'd like more spesific info so that I can be prepared for my own MPC60 dying. I'd rather have spares on hand to minimize down time.

^^^
word yo sorry about that... i got my technical jargon twisted.
I meant tha voice chip, in particular tha voice chip on my 8 outs burned out.
If you have an MKI, i was also advised to buy a MKII in tha future...
cuz tha voice chip in MKII is still made... tha MKI voice chips are discontinued...
either way tho if you have an extra 60 for parts you should be straight.
sorry if that confuses ish more...

So, you can't replace the 60's voice chip with the 60II's chip?¿

Yeah, at least I think you can? Bruce @ Forat is tha one informed me on all this info over a few months ago...
so my memory has faded, yet I do recall him sayin if I copped another 60 MKI or MKII, he could talk me thru tha steps ta get it up and fully operational... Basically what i got from my convo wit Bruce was if your gonna buy another 60 make sure its a MKII and if you do have a MKI make sure you have replacement parts... Disclaimer* Im no sooper geek when it comes to tha schematics and electronics of these two classic machines... If you wanna expert call Forat, Bruce is really nice and willing ta help as much as he can over tha phone... hope this helps...

That sucks. Does the sequencer still function when the voice chips are f**ked ?

I'm thinking it must be possible to either clone the MK I voice chips or make an adapter for the MKII chip.
Does any one know if the voice chips are standard parts or custom Akai jobs ?
Does any one have a pdf of the MKII service manual ?
I'm interested to see what parts the mark I and II have in common.
I had mistakenly always thought they were the pretty much the same internally.
