Ableton Live roll call!!!!

i might have to look into this program. i've messed with a few...cubase, cool edit, reaper...while they pretty much have gotten the job done for me i've yet to find anything that would make me use one over the other.

that automatic bpm feature you guys mentioned seems interesting. i primarily just use hardware but i use the software for easy editing and lining up and adjusting acapellas for remixes.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Looks like they targeted the MPC/beat machine crowd in the new upgrade. Well damn, I wanna get Logic before I upgrade to 7 but that's what I want in a DAW right now, decisions. So is that Drumrack a separate plug-in I can get for Live6 like Sampler or does 7 come equipped with it only? With my basic Live 6 set-up, what type of money am I looking at for 7 upgrade, Drumrack and Sampler?

curious to know how when using drum racks ur impules u can make samples assigned to pad cut each other off when they are pressed? for instance say u gota piano looped chopped into 4our parts with a part on seperate pads u dont want the sounds playing in unison.

i downloaded live 6 last night and played with it. kind of an odd set up. took a while to figure it out. i thought it was wierd having to drag down the track to see the wave and the mixer controls not having any number on them, though i noticed it does say the number on the bottom of the screen. it has a minimal type feel. not a lot of stuff on the screen.

i was impressed by warp and being able to change the tone of a track freely without having to make calculations or ruining the tempo or pitch. and setting one as master and slave, though im still trying to understand that better.

was kinda put off at first cuz i thought the program was giving my sounds an echoey feel, but later realized that little flag where it shows the wave at the bottom wasnt all the way to the left, so my tracks werent lined up right. thats something i found odd, but i'm sure theirs a purpose for those flag points i havent figured out yet.

all in all it looks like an interesting DAW. looks like it has the potential to replace all the other programs i've messed with. i need to mess with the effects/filters and get used to the setup and we'll see.

i wish it did that, like you can in the newer MPC's... setting a whole program to Mono. That's great for flippin samples.

the only way you can kinda do it is... put your sample into the Sampler in Ableton. Open up zones in Sampler and hold in CTRL and click on your sample and drag it down. This will makew a copy of the sample. Do it however many times you want to chop your sample up. Assign the range for the zones. Then you can adjust the release time for each sample or just flip it on the keys of an oxygen controller or whatever controller you are using.

using Sampler in Ableton like this is similar to the way you chop up and flip samples in an ASR-10. They need to incorporate more MPC like funtions and Ableton would be the Ultimate.

Live is FANTASTIC as a DAW if you're looking to make beats or draft super-quick ideas. Once you've got some nice chopping presets and drum racks, you'll be l-aughing!

"Little Flags" - those badboys are the 'warp markers' that help keep your loops in time. You can move them around and change the sync of the beats etc. They are, infact, the whole point of Live!

Use 'choke groups' in the drum rack I/O settings. There's 16 of them that you can assign.

Just did my first remix using Live!! It came out decent,....but it took me about an hour and a half and I was only warpping a vocal track. I think I have a hang of the way warpping works......it's seems like the more markers I move the worse things sounded. I'm thinking it's probably better to use as few markers as possible.

Yep,...thanks for the heads up. I used "Tone", it seemed to yield better results with the vocals.

complex is good for vocals too. in your preferences you can change what it defaults to. complex is usually best for everything except drums.

Hey people. Really getting into Ableton and have come across a slight problem. I am using my mpc 1000 hooked up via midi to ab7 to play samples and cuts of samples from ableton. Now my problem is that when i assign a midi chop to the mpc the sample isnt assigned properly on the mpc pads in order..its ok till pad 4 when it has no sample assigned on it.

My question is how to i chop a sample and have it playable over 16pads in order.
