Akai Sample Packs Not Working with JJ OS?

Hey people,

I just installed and tried both the free JJ OS and JJ OS 1 one after the other. Everything works fine except for the Akai Sample Pack programs I downloaded from the Akai website. Whenever I try to record a sequence, it doesn't work. I can play the pads but the sequence doesn't play back anything even though there is a recorded MIDI sequence...

The same used to happen with the Akai OS 1.23 and everything worked fine once I installed 1.24. The problem is that I would like to switch to JJ now. I love these sample packs and it is important to me to use them in my productions.

Any idea?

I'm not sure of the exact problem, but here's a workaround that will definitely work-- Create your own programs on JJ OS, and arrange the Akai samples in your new programs. I guarantee no problems.

BTW, are we talking about the Loopmasters sample packs they're offering now? Which ones do you have, that you like so much? I was curious about these but couldn't find any comments about them.

About the Loopmasters, the Drum 'n Bass ones are really good and the Hip Hop ones are okay even though I like the fact that they are quite extensive and are not just limited to kick and snares... The other thing is that even though I use Reason a lot, I think that having dedicated MPC programs helps because this way you can use the machine audio effects and you already have very well designed programs in terms of layout.

Cool... I gave that suggestion under that assumption that the programs weren't particularly well designed. Sounds like I was wrong there!

How much experience have you had using MPC's? I would suggest checking the following parameters in the program you're trying to sequence: pad mono/poly, pad note-on/1 shot, if the whole program is set to mono/poly...

Thanks for the advice but that didn't do anything either. I tried all that before and the damn program still only seems to work with the Akai OS 1.24 and nothing else be it 1.23 or JJ...

UPDATE: Just in case anyone has a similar issue in the future--

We were able to come up with a fix for using these Akai/Loopmasters programs in JJ OS. Although the midi note assignments within the program looked correct, it was necessary to use the "reset" note assignments feature in Program Mode. Once this has been done, you should be able to sequence the programs properly.

BTW, I would be interested to hear if anyone has an explanation of why this is necessary...
